Just wondering if it is possible to hook up an iRiver mp3 player to my Kenwood KDC-2019 head unit. The mp3 player has line out RCA's and I can't seem to find if my HU has line in capabilities. I do know that can hook an Mini Disc or CD changer to it because there us a "DISC" setting which is like an AUX on a home stereo. So would anybody know if this would work for an mp3 player. I know I won't be able to control the mp3 from the hu but as long as it will play through the stereo I'm fine. Thanks, Jay Replies (8) UKinstaller on 09/13/2004 13:23:18 that HU does not have line in capabilities. i think the cheapest way to get your MP3 player to play through your stereo is to use an FM-Modulator with audio inputs. the MP3 player would be through a radio station. at circuit city, they are about 50 bucks and includes a lot of stuff with them. they are very easy to hook up, the hardest part is mounting the on/off switch, which is still pretty easy. -UK LC1 on 09/13/2004 14:16:24 What would the sound quality be like, would it be similar to actually listening to a radio station? If its going to sound like that then I think I will hold off on picking up that MP3 player. I found it for pretty cheap and I was hoping I could use it inline directly with my HU and have close to CD quality sound. I was going to transfer all or most of my CD's on the hard drive of the mp3 player and that way I won't all these cds in books around my car. Jay uochronos on 09/13/2004 14:40:12 i would say its cheaper to either buy a new HU with a AUX input alot have them on the front. this gives CD quality or close. or get a HU with a MP3 player built in either can be had for under 250$ if shoped well. Chronos UKinstaller on 09/13/2004 14:40:53 it would be a little bit better than radio quality, but not as good as CD/MP3. in my opinion, they are worth getting because you can play it in your car and still take it with you whenever you are doing your thing. MP3 players rule. -UK ttocs on 09/13/2004 16:45:43 if you have cd chngr inputs you may be able to use it as aline in. Check the Kenwood site and see if they offer a way to use it. With mp3's and ipods more and more companies are making ways to use them LC1 on 09/15/2004 14:23:25 This is just for anybody else that is interested in using their CD-Changer input as a line-in function. For most HU that have CD/MD-changer controls you can buy an adapter that connects into the round changer input and converts it into a pair of female rca inputs. This way you can hook up a MP3 player such as an iRiver or iPod or any other auxilary input you like. I found the one for my Kenwood HU for $20.00 (American). ~Jay UKinstaller on 09/15/2004 15:25:26 that's good to know, i didn't know you could use the cd changer as an input on kenwood decks. a lot better than using an RF mod. -UK ttocs on 09/15/2004 15:26:30 I thought they made something like that...
