good pair of spl subs

i'm helping a freind put a stereo into his '91 jeep cherokee, i just put a temporary 10" but he wants more. he has quite a bit of space so box size is not really an issue. he wants a reputable brand that'll really deliver spl though he still wants some sq. he listens to mostly rap so i was thinking a pair of 12s that have a relatively low rms rating so that i can stick with the stock alt. as for an amplifier i was looking for something with probably about a 50 amp draw. he doesn't have a definate price that he's willing to spend but i would like to keep it relatively low. well i think thats about it.... i look forward to hearing your input.

I personaly love my Infinity kappa perfects. I have 2 10s and they hit pretty hard (at least they did before one of my amp's channels went bad).

They'er supposed to be known for great sound quality and spl.

I'm sure some others here will recomend some other great subs too.

You should do some comparing with specs and prices of any type of sub that gets recomended here. A lot of the people here know their stuff and give great unbiased advice.

If your going for mainly SPL id reccomend going with a JBL 600.1 amplifier. At 600watts you'll be right under the 50ampere draw and you shouldnt have to worry about your lights dimming etc. 600watts will have plenty of thump for him to listen to and should be happy with the results.

Since your going with SPL , I suggest going with a ported enclosure. Its more work but you will gain over all SPL output along with the ability to hit those low notes well.

As far as subwoofers, theres alot of good brands out there that will provide plenty of thump while also giving good SQ it all depends on how much money your willing to spend.

JL audio
Adire Brahmas
MTX
Elemental designs
and there are others that will do it also.

Whats the price range hes looking to spend...I know he doesnt have a set..but whats the range your looking for?

i would like to know how much you guys think would be a good price for a decent 600 watt amp. and what brands you think would be worth putting my money into. what do you think would be a decent price for 2 12s and an amp that would really make some thump? i am not in a huge rush i'm just kind of collecting info so i can discuss this with him and see how much he's really willing to spend.

We usually suggest the JBL BP 600.1...fairly cheap amplifier thats been a good sturdy amplifer. There are some others but I seem to have forgotten.

As far as Subwoofers, it really comes down to how much money he wants to spend.

Alpine makes some awseoms subwoofers that are great for SQ and will pump out some knarly bass too.

Infinity Kappa Perfects
Rockford Phosgate Punch series 1
AudioBahn 1008T series
Elemental Designs Kv2 or Ov2 series subs

Im sure some of the others will have more options/reccomendations also

Best to use a Class D or T amp for subs here. They are very efficient with power and simple in design to be very reliable too. Not only that, Class D circuits are minimal, so you get more power for less cost in this way.

Other good amps: Kicker, JL, JBL, Bahn, HiFonics, Avionixx, Power Acoustik, Phoenix Gold and so many more.
