What is a crossover for and how does it work. It is a necessity for good interior sound. I saw one online that said something like High Input, Low Input, Tweeter output, and Woofer output ... how does that hook up? Replies (2) alanjlamore on 09/11/2004 19:10:05 Here's what crutchfield has to say about crossovers: http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-7HKybRxwFEU/learningcenter/car/crossovers_faq.html Hope this helps. swez on 09/11/2004 19:20:28 Crossovers are used to send the proper audio signals to the right speakers/amps. A Low Pass Filter (LPF) is used to send bass signals to woofers A Bandpass or notch filter is often used in better 3-way systems to provide correct audio signals to MB/MR drivers. A High Pass Filter (HPF) is for the tweeters. Protects them from too low a frequency that would usually blow them apart. Finally, some use Subsonic filters (SSF) to block bass below Porting frequency. (PTF) These keep the sub from going ballistic by blocking very low bass energy the sub cannot handle.
