Adire Audio KODA 6.1

Anyone ever hear anything good about these components? I know they are relatively new. I was reading the description on the website. They make a point of saying "The system as a whole is designed to yield a flat off-axis response (30-50 degrees off axis), as is found in most car audio installs. The result is ultra-smooth in-car response when using stock locations. "

Any truth to this? Or could this be stated by many audio companies creating top of the line components?

I hear good things without actually hearing them so far...

On a different forum I also support, several SQ guys have install Koda's. They love em... if you have enough amping power to drive them to full potential. The off axis claims are for real due to cone designs employed in this series. Wider angle dispersion means better SQ and more realistic sound, even if your are using stock locations. The tweeters will not "beam" or have "hot spots" like some less quality drivers.

Adire makes some excellent drivers... subs, HT and now car Components. A bit pricey here, but better than most in that price range or even higher.

I too, have yet to hear them myself, but the guys I have heard from that own them, are very pleased with the results. Not your average, run of the mill... Comps!

Read their tech notes. These guys at Adire, really understand sound and how to service the customer. If you buy big name brands, most are pretty much up to snuff as well... but as for tech support, forget it as you are just one "schmoe" in a pile of buyers. Not so at Adire!

Some companies rely on hype, looks or catchy gimmicks to make a sale. Adire is a word of mouth player. They use some superlatives... but not in the tech notes.

PS If you have EQ features in the HU, these drivers will sound very nice, after you dial it all in !!!

I have yet to hear anything bad about them.

Swez,

Thanks for the information. I was supposed to be getting a pair of Focal Utopias, but good old eBay seems to be yanking my chain. I purchased the Kodas yesterday from Adire anwyays. I figured for $350 and being Adire, that they would be great. Also, I realized that there is no way the Utopias would fit in the stock location and I didn't want to spend more cash on door pods. So Kodas are probably my best bet anwyays. They will be powered with a Butler Audio Tube Driver Blue 275. I would suspect the Tube Driver and the wide range Kodas to be quite a match. Hopefully there is enough tweet to the tweeters. But I could always add another pair if need be.

Setting the EQ? I have a Alpine CVA-1003. It has a few modes for High Freq. Adjustable at 10k, 12.5k, and 15k. I think. Will that help me? I'm also running this through a Coustic XM-3e crossover. That might help as well. But I'm not to savvy with tuning, just booming.

Bi-Wiring, can this be done with the Koda's? Is there a point to it? If so how? The Tube Driver Amp is 2 ohm stereo stable so it could handle it.

I think you will really appreciate the subtle tones of these Koda's with the Butler Blue tube amp. If the tweets are not as bright as you may like, a little EQ tweaking should help.

It sounds like your HU has some parametric EQ functions? If yes, even more tweaking is possible, if the noted frequencies have variable "Q" slopes. (wide or narrow slopes) A bit harder to dial in for most guys.. but if you have a well trained ear, a few hours of experimentation are likely to get them just the way you like them.

However, for most car audio applications, I find a good 7-10 band EQ will do very well here.

Finally, about Bi-amping the Koda's, maybe not as the crossover is the key to how well the midbass and tweeter interact together. Would need some pretty sophisticated active filtering (4 channel DSP) to beat the crossover design in this driver set. Is probably possible to Bi-amp... but may be more hassle than it's worth.

PS I have heard many good things about Focal Utopias as well... but I think the Koda's will really be a nice addition to what you have to date! CLAP
