Possible new system:

Hey, I'm looking into getting a new system for my '93 dodge intrepid, and I've just been shopping around, looking at different stuff. I think I would like a jbl 600.1 for my amp, because i've only heard good things about it. for subs, I am thinking about getting two Infinity Kappa 100.3 10" DVC: http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=inf1003dvc&store=&rpc=296&catid=368
Are these pretty good subs, I haven't heard them, and don't really have an opportunity to, so I'm relying on your help. I would like to buy from an actual store, not an auction, unless it's guranteed new. That etronics price seems to be about 30 dollars per sub cheaper than ikesound.com. I know ikesound.com is free shipping, but i don't imagine a couple subs costing 60 dollars to ship. I might just get the 600.1 from etronics too, unless you guys know of a cheaper site that offers either this amp or the subs, both brand new. I'll probably be building the box to specs, so that won't be too bad. Also, I listen to mostly metal music, but occasionally some rap, that's why I plan on going with 10's. If you guys have some better recommendations on subs, let me know, i'd like to stay below 100 dollars per sub, including shipping. I plan on going for a mix of SQ and SPL, a good combination of both would be great. I have a Panasonic CQ-DF302U head unit. Also, I've upgraded 4 of my 6 speakers in my car, so they sound pretty good in there. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

The infinity Kappa Series is a fine SQ /SPL sub for the money. Very good price on the link you mentioned

But if you want to stick with Infinity, consider using their Reference series instead, can save a few bucks from this site:

http://www.justwoofers.com

A pair of Ref 1020W's are: 2INF-1020W TWO INFINITY 1020W SALE! $104.99 for 2 subs

The only issue here, these are SVC, 4 ohms and are rated @ 250 RMS per each. The 12's are rated @ 300 RMS and cost a few dollars more.

Finally, the right enclosure makes all the difference in how any sub sounds. If the box is on the smaller end of the specs, very good punch and higher power handling. If the box is on the larger end of the specs, more deep lows, but less punchy and lower power handling. Can achieve very good results with either 10's or 12's.... depends on the box design.

Thanks for the reply and link. Looks like justwoofers.com is having a sale on the 1220W's, 2 for 99.99. These would match the power ratings of the 600.1 a little better, too. Ohm configuration sort of confuses me still, so will two 4-ohm SVC subs be able to be hooked up to get an overall 2-ohm load for the 600.1? Also, are the Reference series subs still really good SQ and SPL? I would still build the box to specs, and probably go with almost the smallest box to specs configuration, probably somewhere around 1.25 cu feet per sub. I think that's about right for 12's for tight bass. Thank you for all of your help, this truly is one of the most helpful sites on the web, and you've already received my donation at this time, more should be coming.

two 4 ohm coils in parallel will net a 2 ohm impedence...

i find it amusing that the 2 volfenhags are selling for more than the 2 infinities, just shows how screwed up the car audio community can get if you dont know what ur talkin about.

Glad you enjoy our little enclave on the web... SMILE

Yes, a pair of 1220W's will handle a JBL 600.1. Also, a small sealed enclosure, 1.0 - 1.25 cf per chamber will do well with this sub grouping. If you get much larger, bass will get mushy and power handling will drop too. Use about 1lb of polyfill per chamber to absorb rear bass waves, for better SQ

The Refs are very good SQ and not bad SPL either... if you have enough power. (which you do)

As ttocs mentioned, wire both sub in parallel for a 2 ohm load or wire one sub to each output on that amp for 2 ohms... A perfect fit!

See all the cash you saved on this option? Are we bargain hunters or what ??? CLAP

Thanks for supporting the site as well. We appreciate helpful feedback from our readers and the donations help to keep the site viable.

If you have any additional questions, just come back an ask.
