I've been wanting to buy a portible mp3 player for a while now but I see them dirt cheap and very expensive.

All I want is to be able to group the songs into a few different catagories and be able to hold around 100-200 songs.

Is there anything else I should look for?

Thanks,
Al

Oh, and to coordinate this with car audio, does anyone know of a portible mp3 player that can be connected to your car sterio, and taken out to listen to with headphones??

That would be an awesome idea if it hasn't been done yet. I know they have hard drives, but I never heard of something you can take out and listen to seperately.

Thanks,

when you get a MP3 player make sure its not one that has a hard drive inside it... the reason for this is a hard drive has a arm taht reads the disk when droped or jarred hard that arm can rip the hard drive apart. ask anyone who has droped there notebook computer before lol cost me 300$ when i droped mine to get a new hard drive... that was years ago though.. other then that i know very little about MP3 players.

alan,

if you have a tape deck in your car, you can play a portable MP3 player through there, using a tape deck adapter that many people use for their portable cd players. if you don't, there are two ways to play your portable MP3 player through your car stereo. you can either get a radio that has an aux input, or you can use an FM modulator. either way will work.

take care,

I've seen many people attach their iPods to their head unit... I don't know how though; just letting you know it can be done.

An Ipod has a hard drive but the hard drive it uses is well protected. It also operates differently from a notebook hard drive. I believe it reads from the HDD, loads the MP3 into the drive's RAM buffer and stops spinning the HDD, raising it's resistance to shock. Ipod also has a great aftermarket.

I was interested last year in an mp3 player to use during my training rides(too boring with out music). After doing some looking around, I found a cd player that I liked better. Its made by i-river and has alot of great features that counter the problems that normally plague cd players. I have used it while biking off road on rough trails and still have not seen it skip. I can get 125-175 songs per disk on mp3 format, as well as play all the rest of my cd's. Very small, great rechargeable batteries as well as run off of AA, nice offboard display as well as a radio. It is also upgradable according to the instructions....
