Not sure where to find online (try a google search?) info for this, but you can take some careful measurements construct your console and cover with carpet, vinyl or cloth that matches your interior.

Also, if using larger amps, make sure you have adequate ventilation to keep the amps cool. Make sure this is well anchored to the floor as well. In a fast stop or collision, don't want it to become a flying weapon of destruction.

PS A conversion van specialist may have some very good ideas for you to employ here.

Swez - Thanks for the response. I'm mouning a pair of kenwood KAC-859's in it.. The console will sit in between the two from seats. I do plan on mouning a pair of fans for ventilation. I am using vinyl that matches my interior. I really want this to look good...

I haven't thought about a conv. van specialist! I'll have to check that out! thanks again...

check out local trim shops. Vinyl can be hard to work with as you have to have the surface perfect, or it will show. All you really do though is spray down the glue, and then lay the vinyl down. Some people like a heatgun to help it stretch, some don't as too much heat will cause problems as well. I might have a site you can check, let me look....

Agreed, vinyl is a bit more challenging as it shows any imperfections below it. Curved surfaces are the most difficult to work with as vinyl will pucker if not trimmed properly.

For best adhesion, I like Super 77 from 3M. It sticks well to most any mating surfaces. Can roll it out tight with a laminate roller too. Using a heat gun or hair drier will help pull sags and loose surfaces together again. Just practice on a few scrap pieces so you don't melt the vinyl.

So have you constructed your center consol already or no?

I have the boards cut and am ready to put them together. Not sure if it is smart to wrap some of them first prior to assemling them. Ideas?

Also, do I need to put anything in between, or can I apply the vinyl directlty to the MDF?

Better trim shops use a thin layer of foam padding around the cabinate to give a nice, soft feel and appearence to the console. It smooths out the surface look and feels better as an arm rest too.

Foam padding comes in sheets and can be glued to MDF. Avoid using staples in areas that will be visible. Staples leave indentations in the foam padding and you'll see it in the vinyl too. The foam also helps reduce puckering of the vinyl too.

How thick a foam pad? Can range between 1/2"- 1". Find the most difficult section and make a test piece that matches that. Curves and corners are the hardest parts to work. Duplicate one of those patterns and get a feel for the job before commiting to the console.
