alrite well now that i have my sub amp setup all finished its time to upgrade my HU and speakers. i decided to get the HU first and worry about speakers later so what i was wondering is if anyone knew any good ones that were a reasonable price. i was thinking about spending about only like 200 canadian. i don't really need mp3 but i do want a sweet looking faceplate. also is it better to buy off the net for HUs or should i buy something from the store here to avoid those nasty shipping fees? Replies (3) swez on 09/5/2004 18:27:48 Pretty tall order for a HU with any decent features on it. With that low a budget, not going to get much performance out of any HU I can think of in that price range. If that is what you have to spend right now, no problem... get the speakers first. This will make a big difference in how your current HU will sound. Aftermarket speakers are often superior to stock models in tone and how much power they can take. Usually more efficient as well. Swez PS Do you plan on amping the speakers at some point as well? oldmazda on 09/6/2004 01:37:21 i have a 2 chanell alpine amp that i was using to push my sub untill i upgraded my sub amp combo. it puts about 50 watts per channel. the reason i was gonna get my HU first though was because i'll be getting a new truck probably in 2 or 3 months, and if i was to get speakers they might not match be the correct size for the speakers in the new truck, where as the HU could be taken out and remounted in my new vehicle. i can spend more but like i said i will be buying a new truck soon so i can't really spend too much or it might be even longer till i get a new vehicle to put my upgraded harware in. my last HU was a pioneer and lasted me the last 3 years without any problems other than looking way to bland and only having one av jack so i was thinking something along these lines... http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dept=9&WLBS=fsweb21&sku_id=0665000FS10024933&catid=10174&newdeptid=9# http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dept=9&WLBS=fsweb21&sku_id=0665000FS10039133&catid=11011&newdeptid=9 uochronos on 09/6/2004 03:26:05 200$ canadian thats around 138.43$ american... thats is a small amount for a HU... i would say normaly 200$ american is the begining for a good HU... i have always been lucky got my piooneer premier for 230$ and my nice calrion for 200$ refurbed... at most local places HUs are 80-170$ for entry level. 200-350$ for good and 350$+ for all the little specialty extras and falshyness... basicaly i'm saying for 130$ unless you find a refurb or a great sale your not going to get much HU. as for speakers if your getting a truck the speakers well probaly be 5x7 or 6x8 if its a newer truck.. thats what most haev anymore.. and you can make jsut about any speaker fit in that hole. 5.25, 6.5, 6x8, 4, etc... just requires a simple wood baffle to be made. honestly for that amount of money a good set of component speakers would do way mroe then a low end HU would. say the CDT CL-61as that are 150$ shipped hope this helps Chronos Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
