Recently put in a brand new 4-channel amp. (60x4 RMS Profile Baja HA740) I'm getting alternator noise along with every time I turn on my directionals I get a click through the dash and rear deck speakers and a thump through the subs in the trunk with every blink (I've got sub amp daisy chained off 4-channel).I get the same click and thump thing if I step on the brake or turn on the wipers. Using 8 gauge power and grounds which are what both amps call for. Any answers ? HELP!!!

This one is common depending on where the ILL wire is connected to the dash lighting/dimmer. Also, inadequate grounding of the HU will also cause this problem. In Aftermarket HU's, use a ground connected directly to bare metal at floor board or firewall. Remove paint etc., from the grounding location choosen. Then use a self tapping sheet metal screw (#6 x 3/4") for this HU wire ground.

Are you using a stock HU to power amps or an Aftermarket HU?

As for amps, #8 gage is fine up to about 40-50A of current draw for all amplifers used. Add up fuses for each amp. If over 50A, drop to #4 gage power and use a Distribution block to split #4 wire into a pair of #8 wires. Use a #8 wire to each amp...(unless you have a larger sub amp) and #8 grounds. The grounds must be attached to bare metal in trunk or floor pan. Here, use a larger self-tapping screw (#10 x 1") or a 1/4" x 20 bolt, nut and c-washer. Again, bare metal is key.

DO NOT USE TAIL LAMP GROUNDS AS A GROUNDING SOURCE FOR YOUR AMPS. GO RIGHT TO FLOOR PAN OR OTHER BODY METAL. Use eye crimp connectors for best results.

PS You are getting a ground loop noise problem here. This is what usually causes noise problems. Worse case scenario, a "Ground Loop Isolator kit" will often cure this problem. Like this model:

This is a 2 channel devise. Will need 2 of these between HU RCA's to 4 channel amp. One for front channels, the other for rear channels. Since the sub amp is daisy chained to 4 channel amp, it's covered by using the isolation inputs to the 4 channel amp.
