I have a 91 nissan 240sx with a tape head unit from a 97 integra. I want to add an amp and I know that in order to keep the acura unit I have to find an amp with speaker level inputs, but what exactly are they? I cant seem to find out. How would one go about hooking up an amp using the speaker level inputs? Thanks a bunch! Replies (2) Swez on 06/10/2003 08:39:30 Speaker level inputs are common on most 2/4 and Mono channel amps. What they offer, is a high voltage signal level from the HU speaker outputs, to feed an amp. This is basically a preamp function (in amp) that modifies the incoming signal voltage and converts that voltage to a usable one the amp can work with without overdriving the input preamps or output devices. Probably some kind of voltage divider network or attenuator circuit here. These inputs can take signals right off the rear speakers for sub applications or speaker level voltages from the HU, to feed interior speakers more power. Are you planning to just add a sub amp or full range 2/4 channel to driver the interior speakers? Say more and we can provide additional help to get you where you want to go with this. Swez PS There are also devices called "Line out Convertors" that knock down the speaker level signals, to lower voltage ( line level RCA) voltages and these plg right into the RCA inputs of the amp. Relax_The_Mind on 06/10/2003 22:37:38 yup mr swez is right. But...a lot of sub amps are somehow doing away with speaker level inputs so you may have end up getting a line out converter. which much like swez said is a small voltage attenuator (most of the time they have adjustable gain). You can pick those up at any local car audio shop. Circuit city and best buy sell them in the car install area. Or even on ebay. Well beside that, like swez said most 4 channel amps and some 2 channel amps already have em. RTM Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
