I went with what you guys had said on a previous thread: buying an infinity 610a, and 2 elemental designs 15" subs. Now I was wondering how much you think it should cost. It's for a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. I don't wanna get ripped off by the car audio places, so I was wondering if you guys could give me an idea of a price it should be before I call them. Thanks in advance. Replies (8) Geezer on 08/30/2004 21:27:59 I've never paid for a box so I can't help you there. Have you considered building your own? It's not that difficult, especially if you want a sealed box. P0werLifter on 08/31/2004 00:41:38 It varies with each shop/installer.....I had a guy charge me $200 for a enclosure for 2 12's that fit under my old rear seat, and he didnt do that great of a job. Do you want a ported or sealed enclosure? for a ported enclosure they might charge more due to more work and math involved but id venture to say around $300 give or take, Im sure some of the others will come by and have more input. *Jason uochronos on 08/31/2004 04:39:09 a box built specificaly for your susb is going to start at 150$ and run up to probaly 500$ more for special things. audionewb on 08/31/2004 07:18:33 I would take whatever box is cheaper right now. I don't have much money, and I've had speakers in a sealed box before and I thought they sounded nice. I was hoping at most around 200 dollars. You think a sealed box would cost about that much? I just don't have the time to build a box myself right now, between school and my job. The last box I built came out decent, but I made it during the summer when I had nothing to do. swez on 08/31/2004 09:56:59 Can consider pre-made enclosures for these subs. SubZone makes a very good enclosure for many types of subs. Prices are reasonable at Zeb. Just need to know the recommended cf per sub and match that with a box style that will fit your trunk. Also, which subs did you order? (16Kv2 K series or the 16Ov2 series) Hummm, both have the same recommended sealed specs: Sealed: 1.4 - 1.8 cf per sub chamber Ported: 2.0 -2.5 cf per sub chamber (eD recommends a transmission line venting system for more output) The sub cutout diameter is 14.0" for the 16Kv2 and 16Ov2 subs. SubZone has a sealed box that seems to fit your needs: http://www.subzoneusa.com/images/h-152lq%20dimensions.jpg Model #: H-152LQ.......15" (2) Dimensions: 13 7/8" (1.5 cubic feet) Perfect size! 16 1/2" h X 12 1/2" d X 34 1/2" w The cutout for sub is 13 7/8". Here, a coarse half round bastard file will make quick work for enlarging the sub hole. (No, I am not swearing... that is what this file is called) A 2" rotary sander bit chucked to a power drill will work even faster. Just go slow to get an accurate hole. Swez PS Now the trick is finding this model at a reasonable price. Maybe Zeb can order one for you. uochronos on 08/31/2004 15:04:24 hmm if you have a cartoys near by they have reasonable pre fab.. if you can fidn soemthing prefabed and dont need a custom build brings price down alot. i got a dual 10" enclosure for my alpines type R's that was almost perfectly right for them for only 50$ just had to call places till i found one that had a pre fab that fit the subs specs. audionewb on 08/31/2004 21:32:46 I got the Kv.2's. I was talking to an audio shop and they have some pre-fabs. You think it will be alright for now, til I get enuff money. I can see about getting the sq.ft. of the boxes and post those as well. Should I get dimensions too? I was thinking of buying a sealed box if I go pre-fab because I've heard on here if you don't have the ports tuned right on ported boxes they can hurt ur subs.... uochronos on 09/1/2004 01:57:37 a prefab well work fine as long as it is close to the recomended space...withen .2cubic feet i would personaly say.
