I currently have two Kenwood KAC729s amplifiers. They are 2 channel amps and they "say" 600 watts. Of course the specs say at 14.4 volts and the RMS isnt that high, but anyways. I am trying to find the best combination i can. I would like to get 2 15" subwoofers. If i hook up one amp per sub, then what do i need to achieve the maximum amount of wattage. The amps are 2 ohm stable. So i need 2 scenarios. What should i look for Ohm-wise for a Dual voice coil sub and a single voice coil sub. I "think" that i should get a 4ohm single and a 2 ohm dual, but i could be wrong. I get VERY confused with impedence and what not .. but just to recap. 2 - 2channel amps and i want two 15 inch subs with the most power i can get. The amps are 2 ohm stable. So what should i look for guys ....... also .. any suggestions for subs? I was thinking maybe Thunder 5500 by MTX. My price range is 100-150 bucks per sub. Thanks for the help. Is that 600watts peak, or 600rms wattage and is that per amplifier....if their 600watts each RMS..then thats 1200 watts rms for 2 subwoofers if you plan to run that way. You stock charging system on a vehicle will not run this amount of power (1200 watts) without having to be upgraded, Figure another 600 just in electrical upgrades if this is the case. However we can help you better once we get more info..again, whats the RMS value for each amplifier at 12volt...whats your budget? Jason Black_Rob on 08/27/2004 01:36:40 http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/product.jsp?productTypeId=11&sortBy=price&pageId=2&productId=713 copy and paste the link, it has the specs for my 2 amps. it says 300 watts rms when bridged 14.4 volts .... so it should be slightly under 300 watts rms bridged for each amp. So the question is, what Ohms should I look for in a single voice coil sub, and a dual voice coil sub. I plan to hook up one sub to one amp. Help me fellas... PS Sub sugeestions 100-150 dollars a piece 15" uochronos on 08/27/2004 02:57:44 check out ED's Kv2 15" subs they are in your range also i would suggest 15" alpine type R subs.... swez on 08/27/2004 09:22:45 Here, you get the most bang from each amp for subs, by bridging each amp mono and run a single 4 ohm sub to each bridged amp. There are several good subs out there in the 300-500 watt (RMS) range that come in a single 4 ohm coil. Easiest to wire too. There are variations in sub coil choices. A 2+2 DVC will net 4 ohms in series. An 8+8 DVC (Adire Tempest... $150.00/ea.) wired in parallel will give you a net 4 ohms too. The Tempest is an SQL sub and rated at 750 watts RMS. The approximate current draw from each amp will be about 30 amperes each at full power. (~60A tot.) Do you understand the choices laid out here? Swez Black_Rob on 08/27/2004 13:38:22 ok .. to make it easier for me, lets just pretend i only have one amp and that i am hooking up 1 15" inch sub ... this is how i see it ... Bridged Amp ---> 4 ohm SVC wired normal Bridged Amp ---> 2 ohm DVC wired series Bridged Amp ---> 8 ohm DVC wire parallel is this right ?? Also, Why would I not want a 2 ohm SVC? If my amp is 2 ohm stable should i try to get a 2 ohm SVC? And what about a 4ohm DVC? swez on 08/27/2004 16:21:56 Yes, you have it correct..weI know this is tough for some beginners. About the amp being 2 ohm stable.... yes/but... only in 2 channel mode. When bridging 2 channel amps, we double the effective power output of the amp, into a single channel. The lowest resistance a typical amp can manage is 4 ohms when bridged. A MONO amp is preferred for sub applications. DO NOT buy 4+4 DVC's for this application. Only the three types mentioned will be suitable for this amp mentioned, if you plan to run only 1 sub per amp. (best way too) Swez Black_Rob on 08/27/2004 16:29:15 Another question ... my amp says its 2 ohm stable, but does that mean its 2 ohm stable in stereo, or in mono, or both? swez on 08/27/2004 16:32:16 It is 2 ohm stable, ONLY in stereo. When bridged, it is ONLY 4 ohms or higher that can be used or the amp will overheat. Swez Black_Rob on 08/28/2004 02:38:57 Does it make a difference whether it is SVC or DVC? Will they both be as loud ... Single4ohm or Dual2+2 or Dual8+8 Black_Rob on 08/28/2004 02:50:18 One more question, haha ... give me some opinions on this should i get a pair of MTX 5500's or kicker compVR 15"s i found the kickers for 89.95(each) + SH MTX 5500s for 149.95(each) at a local store swez on 08/28/2004 10:26:40 The Kicker's Comp VR's come in a 2+2 DVC. This would be a good SPL choice in a large, slot ported enclosure. They are only moderate efficiency. But the slot port and lareger box gets the boom out of them pretty good. Swez PS "One more question, haha ..." wanna bet? It's like a potatoe chip that tasted good... one more is never enough. ;-) Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
