im tryin to find a good set of seperates. i want something that is gonna have really good mid bass response, and get loud too. i have heard an older set of JL componets that were really loud and clear with good midbass.. im lookin for something along them lines. i will be giving probably 50 to 75 watts rms per side... i dont want to spend over 300-400 dollars on the set, maybe even a good get of 3-ways if i can find a good set for that cost. how do you think the CDT line compares to the JLs that i mentioned. not too sure of the model number but they were probably 4 years old ar so, just plain black woofer... any suggestions are welcome, thanx in advance what are some brands to look at, i will prolly purchase of ebay or other e-tailer. As far as comparable CDT's I would say the closest to the XR's would be the HD's. The HD's should give you alittle more midbass than the JL's and the tweeter is alot less harsh sounding. I'm gonna say the best match for you though is probably gonna be the RE line of components from Resonant Engineering. I thinkn they run about 170 shipped and are supposed to have good midbass, and an overall very good sound to them. The RMS for them is right in your range as well so they should work great for you. compvr15s on 08/18/2004 20:05:30 aight kewl ill check into them, i was lookin on ebay and seen alot of diamond audio and focals. not familiar with these brands but they seem to be higher priced, are they worth that money or are they over rated... not for sure on the 4 channel amps that i will be using yet but its probably either the PG xenon 400.4 or 600.4.... i just dont want to buy cheap now and then not be happy with them so have to upgrade and end up spending more later. id rather spend more now and be happy with what i get, know what i mean... compvr15s on 08/18/2004 20:17:46 have also seen some brands make 2ohm seperates, this would be a better way to go with a smaller amp, but still get lots of power to the speakers, i se image dynamics make most of thier components in either 2 or 4 omh operative, would this be a good idea to look for swez on 08/18/2004 20:43:04 Focal and Diamond make some excellent speakers. Yes, they are expensive too. But if you demand high SQ, they deliver. Several here have bought the CDT CL-61a's from Zeb and I have yet to hear a bad report on them. For about $150.00 a pair and 90 watts RMS each, hard to beat that deal. ID has a good idea using 2 ohm MB drivers. Here, they net ~3 dB more output than a 4 ohm driver. A smaller amp will drive these pretty well too. Swez compvr15s on 08/18/2004 20:57:28 yea i have thought alot about gettin the cdts, im sure they will perform to my standards, and if not im sure they would always work great for rears. i have decided to go with just on brahma 15 sub, instead of 2. i still want to get really loud but i want good sound quality and i dont want to go deaf either. currently had a hearing test for work, the lady said that she could tell i listened to loud music. perfect hearing was zeros across the chart, i only had like one or two zeros and the rest were like 15s and 20s, and in the low freqs some were around 35 and 40, so that kinda worried me, since im only 20, maybe have all that bass aint so great anymore... swez on 08/18/2004 22:17:09 Most folks have a natural dip in hearing levels at low and high freqs. As we age or get exposed to loud work environments and such, we can lose some hearing in the 800 - 4Khz., range. This is normal for an older man... but a younger guy like you... best to monitor your listening habits and limit the time you live in a high SPL world. (High SPL meaning anything over +110 dB.) A 10-15 minute session is about all the SPL a person can take before their hearing begins to degrade. It will come back in a few hours... but we get a little SPL drunk is we stay at it for extended period of time. Add days on end of that on top of normal noise pollution... we get hearing losses.
