Some sub setup questions

I jsut have a couple of questions about setting up subs as I would like to get better at installing them. The first is when I was looking at some people's setups online I saw some guys had their subs facing into the boxes so you see the back of the sub. Does that just serve as a bandpass box without the window? If so can you have 1 sub that is in a sealed box facing normaly with another in a separate box with it facing inward? Also with fiberglass boxes, is there a wood base behind the fiberglass becasue it is so flimsy? Thanks for your help.

setting up the subs so that they are facing into the box doesnt make any big difference in performance. it is about the same as putting it in normally. it has been done to have a box with 1 facing inwards and one facing outwards, so you dont really need a separate box for each if thats what you are saying.

To add to what Blitz is saying.

Placing a sub in the box cone first or Invert Mounting, doesn't effect the sound of the woofer at all, it is primarily done to gain that little bit extra cubic feet in a small box ( so there is not sub displcaement ) Also it helps cool the Voice Coil of the driver a little bit better if it is a sealed encloser because there is more air circulationg the Spider and going through the pole vent. You hear the same thing on both sides of the sub, but unless there is a baffle stoping the front wave from the back wave, you get cancelation, thus no boom. BUT THE MAIN reason it is done, is to show off the basket and motor of the subwoofer for looks SMILE.

Now with Fiberglass box's they use wood behind the fiber-glass but only for the baffle usually , just a baffle ring, because it provides a flat surface for the sub to be mounted to, and when building an fiberglass enclosure it serves as an outline. Fiber glass enclosers are very very very strong if made properly.
