I got my new car 2 weeks ago. I love it. Not sure if any of you have seen one yet but they are great. I have yet to work on the system other than dropping those two crappy Sony Xplods I have had in there. I just built a new box for them last night that is actually fitted to this car rather than my old truck. I am having a problem with the door speakers. I was going to put my CDTs in there last weekend but the factory speakers are riveted in with little brackets that are part of the speaker so even if I drill the rivets out I have no place to screw the CDTs in. There is a bracket that Crutchfield has but I am not sure if it will work in my case or not. I think I am going to try it out to see but if not I am not sure what to do. There isn't even a spot on the door panel I could put them. Anyone dealt with something like this before? The other option would be to re-orient the mounting holes, drill small pilot holes and use self tapping sheet metal screws to install the new speakers. Swez erikcooper on 08/12/2004 11:59:16 Sorry I wasn't clear. The bracket around the speaker in the door is a triangular design that is connected to the speaker but spaced away from the edges. Once it is taken out there is nothing in the 6.5" hole to attach a new one to... If I were to get the Elemental Designs 13Kv.2 which would you suggest to use with the JBL 600.1, Dual 2 or Dual 4? P0werLifter on 08/12/2004 14:25:10 Hmm...might be tricky but what about making a fiberglass panel for the door speaker to mount too? Thin, Light and strong and you could even possibly make it an enclosure for the MB driver? Just a thought,Maybe take everything off the door, lay some aluminum foil or something then lay some resin down etc (u know already GRIN) then WAAMMMY theres ur mounting location? ~Jason swez on 08/12/2004 17:57:46 Can you make (fabricate) a template of that triangle, cut out your speaker hole and install all in one package? Plexiglass, masonite or other strong, but water resistant materials will also work. The other option to consider would be kick panels. Yes, they are a bit expensive, but SQ is better and much easier to install in many cases.
