hey, first off this is my frist post so let me know anything i should know, i appreciate any and all help given anyway here we go i bought 2 12'' volfenhag subs and 1 1600 watt amp also volfenhag. i have heard mostly good things about the volfenhags but wanted some more opinions. i mainly bought them for there bright red color which will match perfectly with my truck. i just wanted to know the best way to install them, what wires to use fuses battery alternator ect. also what is the difference in 2ohm or 4ohm or 8 ohm and how should i run mine. i am gonna make a sealed box for the 2 12s they have these specs 1000 Watts Max Power 500 Watts RMS Power Dual Voice Coils Aluminum Cone Rubber Surround Coated Tinsel leads Double Magnet Structure Oversized Vented 4- Layer Voice Coil Bumped T-Yoke Double Damper Gold Plated Spring Loaded Terminals Aluminum Die-Cast Basket Recommended Sealed Enclosure 1.25 Cubic Feet Model: ZX-4712DVX .: Fs: 30Hz .: Qts: 0.526 .: Qes: 0.614 .: Qms: 7.698 .: Vas: 56 L .: Efficienct (1W/1m): 89.5 dB .: Sd: 0.0491 m .: Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coils .: For 2/4/8 Ohm Operation .: 500 W RMS / 1000 W Peak Each .: Mounting Depth 160 mm .: Hole Diameter 282 mm] if more information is needed please let me know i am in no hurry to install this but want to do it right the first time. eventually i am going to add 2 15s but this is it for now thanks for the help Eric Replies (4) hellrazors05 on 08/8/2004 12:19:42 2 ohm stereo stable 4 ohm stereo in mono bridged Adjustable input sensitivity Circuit/Thermal/Overload Protection Soft Delayed Remote Turn-On High/Low Level Imputs Floating Ground Inputs Mosfet switching Power Supply Phantom Channel For Powering Center Speaker of subwoofer Bass Boost with Variable Frequency adjustments High pass and Low pass Filter Max Power 800 watts x 2 channel RMS 320 watts x 2 Channel @ 2 Ohm THD = .03% RMS @ 4 Ohms 220 watts x 2 Channels Channel Seperation 60dB Frequency 20 Hz-20Khz Adj. If used as designed, think you will have decent results. Since the amp is 320 x 2 @ 2 ohms, easiest way to wire them is make each sub a 2 ohm load. (parallel wire each coil to mating coil) and run in 2 channel mode, 1 sub per channel. The other option is to bridge the amp to mono for ~640 watts and run the subs in a series/parallel configuration so you get a net 4 ohms to the single bridged amp. This is a bit more complex for a beginner. But we can give you diagrams on how to wire either way. When installing this amp, use a #4 gage power wire and ground. (MIN.) I say minimum as you may want to add a mid/high amp later. If so, drop to #2 gage wiring here. Also, this amp will definitely pull some juice from your electricals. I did not note the vehicle you are installing all this into, but the amp alone will draw over 60A. of current when you crank it up. If this is a small car and a tiny ALT/BAT., electrical issues and upgrades may be in the future. If you get severe light dimming at night, there is a problem to correct ASAP. Often, an 80A ALT will try to keep up, but it may not. If we use a higher CCA rated BAT (Say 800+ CCA rating) you may get by. If there is still a lot of light dimming at low RPM, adding larger power feed wires (#4 wire) between ALT/BAT, BAT/GND and a 2nd grounding strap might help. If dimming is still a problem, then a HO ALT is your last upgrade. Finally, the sub specs say 1.25 cf sealed right? That should be the inner airspace of the chamber. It is better to use a divider here to give strength to the box and if one woofer should go out, the other will still be OK. If you do not use a divider and 1 sub dies, the box is now 2.50 cf for 1 sub and it will usually die soon as well. (too large a box to support the backpressure needs of a given sub. Hope that spawns some additional questions, Swez hellrazors05 on 08/8/2004 20:33:20 ok i uderstand most of that some a lil bit confused but the wiring diagrams should deffinitly help if you wanna e-mail them to me that would be great z28camaro3@hotmail.com also its going in a 1991 s-10 blazer 2 dr with a 4.3 v6 and auto trans Thanx Eric swez on 08/10/2004 17:36:02 There are several websites that give wiring diagrams for various woofer/load wiring options. Here are 2 that most people find useful: 1. http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html#2dvcsp 2. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wiringwizard.asp?WoofQty=2+woofers&WoofImp=Dual+Voice+Coil+-+4+ohms+x+2&image.x=15&image.y=5 (wiring option #2, 4 ohms load) Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
