Hey guys, hope you can give some personal opinions here for a set-up I'm trying to complete. I guess I'll just list my ENTIRE setup so you can suggest from there... Kenwood deck AudioControl EXQ Clarion 50x2 RMS amp Earthquake 250x2 amp (4-ohm) 2x 10" Jl 10W0-8 subs Pioneer 150W 5 1/4" components I also have some extra stuff from previous "upgrades", maybe somone can suggest I use this stuff too... 1 10" Infinity 1020 subs Infinity 4x6 component plate speakers 6.5" Bazooka speakers 1 10" MTX8000 sub 2 12" Cerwin Stealth's -------------------------------------- This current set-up is pretty powerful, but the JL's don't measure up to the Earthquake amp (have gain set at about 1/3) and subs still bottom-out at half volume. So... I bought a Audiobahn ALUM10Q sub (dual 6ohm voice coils)... I was thinking of keeping the Earthquake to run the door & rear speakers at "hi-pass" off the EQX, and buying another Audiobahn amp to run the ALUM10Q sub... but the 3ohm load is throwing me off... Will a 4-ohm amp run @ 3ohms, or do I need to get a 2-ohm amp to run this sub? I have about $$$ 200 USD to spend on another amp, or keep the current set-up and get a second sub, ... Im confused & would appreciate everyone's opinions :o) Thanks... Simon Replies (1) swez on 08/5/2004 20:40:27 The JL subs mentioned are very good in SQ and SPL. However, they are the entry level of the line and cannot take a lot of power. It also depends on the enclosure style and size as well. The newer JL series (v2) and W-7's are great subs and do handle more power. But that's more expense too. That amp mentioned is very good and will probably run at 3 ohms (Bahn AlumQ) when bridged. If you have problems with the amp going into protect, shift back to 2 channel mode and wire one coil to each channel. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
