i am going to run 0 gauge wire from my BAT to the back of my car. do i need to upgrade my BAT, ALT, and GRND wires to 0 gauge as well, or will 4 gauge be good enough? i have not upgraded my factory alternator yet due to lack of funds. does anyone know where i can find a cheap alternator for a 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara? i need one that can put out at least 200 amps, 100+ at idle. thank you.

0 gauge is quite a large wire here 0 guage can handle 330amps and 2800watts. this seems like a bit of over kill unless your going to be running that much in amps in which case you well need around a 400amp alternator.

i'm running 2 guage wire and powering a 1200watt RMS amp and a 500watt rms amp together these amps are fused at 200amps and my wire doesnt get warm and it works great.

upgradeing more then you need is really uneeded it wont work any better and it well be twice as hard to work with, to hide and to run.

if your running 140amps or less 4 guage well work fine. if your running under 220amps at normal power then 2 guage well be more then fine. and since your not planing on getting mnore then a 200amp alternator 2 guage should be more then adequate.

Yah I agree, 0Guage might be a bit over kill if your not planning on running multiple alternators/very high amperage system. You might be better off Like Chronos stated running 2 guage wire to your distrobution block, then 4 guage to your amplifiers, and upgrade all your grounds to 4guage. When you get H/O alternator upgrade the Alt/Bat power wire to 4guage.

Im running a 200amp alternator 125amp at idle pushing my poweracoustik 3000db amplifier (1800watts RMS@2ohms) and my 2 Channel Alpine amplifier and the 200amp alt still dims with the lights and AC on. Im running 0 guage wire because im going to be putting in multiple alternators and a bank of batters due to my main Focus being a competiton SPL machine.

The wiring upgrades should reflect your future system plans, IF you plan to do a high amperage/wattage system, go a head and upgrade all your wiring now to save yourself the trouble and money of doing it later.

As far as finding an alternator thats 200amp 100+ at idle. Look around on e-bay.
