'97 Plymouth Neon come with factory 6x9 speakers on rear deck. General installation procedures are well covered in aftermarket car guide, including rear seat removal. Rear deck, and factory speakers are covered by rear-deck trim piece made of a carpeted material. Does this muffle sound? Can I ? Remove old speakers Trace holes on underside of carpet material Cut out 6x9 holes in carpet material Mount new speakers in place with included grilles I don't want to bury the new speakers under the carpet material if it will detract from the sound. Is this the manner in which this is typically done? Suggestions? Replies (1) swez on 08/6/2004 10:11:32 You have it down. The carpet that covers the stock speakers are generally sonically transpearant. There is usually a cardboard baffle panel with holes to let the sound escape. When you remove the stock speakers, cut your carpet and trim baffle carefully with a sharp utility knife. Then install your grill plates, speakers and covers. Don't be too surprized if the new speakers sound notably louder than stock. Many stock rear deck speakers are 8-10 ohms for better balance between front and rear stages. Swez PS Sounds like you bought the new speakers from Crutchfield as they give very good details on install process along with their gear. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
