My amp doesnt seem to be getting power, i was driving down the street one day and my speakers just shut off. Prior to that it was working fine. when i look at my amp when my volume is low the power light is green, and my speakers work, but when i turn the volume up past 10 it turns red and the speakers turn off. The amp remains on but the light is now red what could it be... Replies (5) P0werLifter on 08/4/2004 22:51:09 Sounds like your amp is going into Safe Mode from overheating possibly. What kind of amplifier is it? how many watts is it? and what kind of subwoofers are you trying to push? If the amplifier gains are set to high the amplifier will go into safe mode once the amp runs to hot. What is the RMS output of the amplifier and whats the RMS rating per subwoofer? How do you have the Ohmage set for the subs? Are they ran correctly to produce the right omage for the amplifier to run correctly? Im sure one of the other guys will be here shortly for other possible problems. Jason P0werLifter on 08/4/2004 22:53:23 By the ohmage i mean are your subs single voice coil? dual voice coil? 2ohm, 4 ohm, 8ohm etc, and are they ran in series, parallel, series/parallel to net a certain ohm load from the amplifier. Jason compvr15s on 08/5/2004 03:20:27 do you have the amp grounded to a bare metal spot on the, did you make sure to sand the paint before you bolted your ground wire, if not you may be getting enough ground to turn the amp on but not to run it past a certain point, may also be your power wire make sure that it is connected tightly to your battery and make sure its snug in the amp, and power lifter probably has the solution, probably the ohmage of your speakers not being compatable with your amp. how many channels is your amp 2/3/4. are you runnin interior speakers or just subs off of this amp. if your running a 4 channel amps and bridging it down to just two channels and tryin to run 2 ohms to each channel it will overheat and shut down in no time. but if your runnin 4 ohms to each channel or 2 ohms to each channel when its not bridged you may have a problem, what brand and model amp and speakers are you using, this will help us to further help you. goood luck uochronos on 08/5/2004 05:14:47 what model amp is this the light turning a differnt color is letting you knwo some internal sensor or precuation has been tripped give us the make and model of this amp and we can tell you what this amp is trying to tell you is wrong. swez on 08/5/2004 07:21:20 Sounds like amp is going into thermal protection mode here. What is make and model of amp and subs you are using now? There may be a way to re-wire subs to give decent power and not go thermally unstable for you. Swez PS For now, try cutting back on bass boost and re-adjust your gain settings on the amp to make the subs a little quieter until we help sort this one out OK?
