the local stereo shop has a w7 with the high output jl designed ported box for 600 dollars for the both, only bad thing is that the sub is a refurb, and the shop dont have a warrenty, do you think jl would cover it if anything happened to it, i dont think i would blow the sub or anything but if something does happen i dont want to be out all that money. that seems like a pretty good deal dont it, i heard the w7 vs the L7 vs 2 of the new mtx 12inch 7500 with a dual ported box. the mtx sounded good but the single L7 and W7 were both louder, and JL being the loudest. only problem is im not sure what the voice coil rating is, my amps are 600 watts rms @ 2 ohms or i can bridge together for 1200 watts rms but can only drop to a 4 ohm load, i think the w7s are 3 ohms or 1.5 ohms, this may cause a problem. just wondering what you guys thought about this if its a deal or not. Replies (5) uochronos on 08/1/2004 03:15:43 i dont think jl gives much of a warranty on refurbs maybe 30days maybe. it is a good deal on a very ncie sub in a jl box. if the sub works now and doesnt sound wrong or anything then i would say chances are its not going to blow. my PG amp was a display/demo unit and i bought it and got an extended warranty on it and never needed it now almost 2 years later still works great. and my other amp is a refurb that had a 15 day wqarranty and it is still working great 5 months later. this is alot of money though 600$ and if it turns out to be a lemon it could cost that much to fix it.... also on ebay they have several 12w7's in boxes brand new for 729$ and several brand new speakers without boxes for under 550$ swez on 08/1/2004 09:36:19 If it's a demo, you know the sub is being well stressed to impress every Joe that comes to hear it. Per Chronos' info, new VS a very well USED for $600.00 does not seem like a very good deal to me. If it were me and no warranty, I'd low-ball an offer ($375-450.00 tops) and see where the strike a deal price is for this very USED sub/box. Just my opinion... Swez compvr15s on 08/1/2004 23:44:45 good point, swez, im not sure if its used or not but i know this particular shop does run thier subs hard, they will turn bass boosts way up as well as the headunit sub adjustment, i could offer probably 400 and do it that way, im still just a little hesatent, i dont even know why they even have this sub, every other sub is brand new that they carry.. i think i should just hold out and see if the price drops or just forget about it. cplkittle on 08/2/2004 17:46:57 My guess is it is probably more like a repo than a refurb. I would personally shy away from it. I would go for the NEW IN BOX deals on Ebay. You can build your own box, JL is an excellent company as far as customer service/tech help. They will give you the specs on it over the phone, just tell them they type of car you are puttin it in and they will give you the optimum dimensions. P0werLifter on 08/2/2004 18:27:48 Yah i agree, $600 is pricey for the sub and the enclosure especially since the sub doesnt have a warrenty and has been "used and abused". Id shy away from the deal or do like swez said and low ball it. If no one has offered a price then im sure they'll take what they can get for it. But be careful even 400is spendy for a refurb, demo or repo. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
