any better way to do this....

what's up,

today at work, i installed a cd player in a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL. what started out as a very easy install quickly turned into a nightmare.

to make a horribly long story short, i had to run fresh speaker wire to each of the cars horribly placed speakers. i had to drop the entire front dash to get the the speakers under the windshield, and to get the rears out......i had to remove the electronic, heated, reclining rear seat. it was horrible, but it ended up working out.

my question is, was there any way to integrate the factory mercedes amp into the aftermarket radio?? i tried a lot of things to try to get it to turn on, but it never did. i couldn't get any speakers to tone generate before running new wire.

any suggestions on how to avoid this nightmare again??

oh yeah, i also tried tapping in at the built in fader switch in the center console, but that didn't work out, either.

Uhmmm, charge a whole lot more for this car if you get another one. If they can afford a Mercedes, they can handle the install fees.

Sounds like a real nightmare alright. See what ttocs and Kittle have to say on the internal amp questions. I'd bet ttocs has done or seen a few of these in his day.
