I need some help. I have a 95 Taurus and I revamped the audio system w/ new speakers and a new CD deck w/ pre-amp outs. I wanted to get a couple of 8" subs w/ no box...cut out some holes underneath the backseat, angle the subs towards the front at maybe a 30-45 degree angle. Couple of questions...will it sound decent this way? Also, how would i go about hooking up my deck to the amp (and the amp to the sub) so that i will still maintain good sound through my 6.5" and 6x8" speakers? Replies (2) ILikeBass on 06/1/2003 22:48:57 Hmm, Well, give me some information on this a little bit. 1. Will the sub's basket and motor ( everything except the cone fron ) be outside the Vehicle meaning will i see the back of the sub if i look under the car, i am not too familliar with your vehicle, but i used to own a 1992 Mercury Sable which i think is almost the same car. In short, if it is visible from under the car, DON'T DO IT. 2. Now if it will still be ( in the car ) how many cuft of air space is there. And is there proper mounting depth for the subs? Typically when someone is looking for an IB subwoofer ( Infinite Baffle ) they are either putting them in the doors, or on the rear deck using the trunk as the encloser, but since trunk is not air tight and is rather large ( 6+cuft ) it is considered IB. Now if there is enough room, mounting the sub's there won't sound bad, but are you sure you want to cut-up the interior, my guess is you don't ever plan on selling the Vehicle. If you do deside to do it make sure you get some good grill's for them to passangers don't break them. 3. As far as running the speaker wire, you can simply drill a small whole next to the woofer, and run the wire underneath the carpet so it is not visible. Please give more info. And also check around where you live for install shop's to see if they can give you a hand in what you are trying to do. Suggestion- you could build a small sealed encloser underneath the rear deck and cut the rear deck and mount the sub's there, this will take up little trunk space and yield a better sound, as well as it can be covered up if you ever decide to sell the Vehicle. Relax_The_Mind on 06/2/2003 01:40:09 Thunder, 8" under the back seat?... I wouldnt recommend any subs around that area of the car even more without a box. There are many 8" subs that 2 would be perfect in a 1cuft or less box. That can easily be stealthed and stuck somewhere around your vehicle. Like Mr. Ilikebass said, I would think twice about ripping up your interior when a simple box would be the easy way and the IB subs would be a better alternative. I also beleive the trunk of a Taurus is quite large. If you are gonna hide a sub or two somewhere besides the trunk, try it in the front as the front is the most ideal place (sound quality wise) for subwoofer placement.
