subwoofer/amp agreement

Hello~
I have two 12" Lightning audio subwoofers that are 500W peak, and I have a 720 W peak Jensen amp hooked up to them. It is in bridged mode. What's the pros and cons of bridged/ unbridged? When I go to really crank it up... the safety kicks in and the subs turn off for about 3 seconds. I don't understand, this only happens on some songs. Some songs it will blast the subs away, and others when I start to turn it up they cut out. Do I need yet another bigger amp? This one I just put in there was an upgrade from my older 200w jensen amp.... any suggestions email me at monkeydude3@cs.com I'm sorry if I sound at all ignorant about anything... I spend most of my time under the hood and not doing stereo work. Thanks
~GEORGE

Depends on the subs ohmic value and how they are wired to the amp. Most 2 channel amps will only take a 4 ohm load. Any lower, the amp will overheat and go into protect mode. What model # are these subs?

If you are using the bass boost feature on the amp, this can overdrive the amp on certain cuts as well. Most Rock music is not bass heavy. But Rap and a few other types of music have very heavy bass tracks and this may be pushing your amp into protect too. Dial back on the bass boost to under +6dB of boost and see if that helps. You may have to adjust the amp gain as well.

Read this and have a go at same:
