That enclosure size is very small for an 18" Comp VR. Their specs range recommendations for that sub are:

Ported: 4.0 - 6.0 cf per sub
3x18x20 for a 6 cf box
3x18x24 for a 5 cf box
Both of these are slotted ports and tuned to 40 Hz.

Sealed:
2.2 - 5.5 cf per sub for a compact sealed or street bass boxes

NOTE: http://www.kicker.com/images/manuals/03CompVRManual.pdf

PS These are specs right from Kicker's web site. If you deviate from these specs... better know what you are doing. This one is alot like trying to fit a hippo into a 1 gallon container.

If these subs are that old, best to write/call Kicker and ask them about what is recommended for these subs. If not covered by the current website, it's the only way to get the right information.

yeh hes talking about single voice coil model VR = DVC plain comp SVC, but I even seen that a single requires more than the dual for my 12 inch I have so anything under 2 for each sub is bad deal

Most recommended tuned frequencies are at or around the F3 This is the 3dB downpoint of the sub. The reason for this is to extend the dB 'shelf' as far as possible (3dB gain at tuned frequency @ the 3dB downpoint of the sub) The F3 is usually 3-5 Hz below the Fs (free air resonance) To get maximum SPL at a low frequency I recommend tuning at or slightly above the Fs.
