well i think i am gonna go back to having a pair of shivas. they each will be in a 1.5 sealed chamber. can they take more than a jbl 600.1? im not sure if i can fit a ported box so i decided on sealed. Replies (15) uochronos on 07/24/2004 04:17:29 shivas are nice but if your looking for maxiumu loudness for your money. the ED sub i mentioned the 10 or 12" Kv2 series has a i belive 92efficiency rateing where as the shiva is a bit inefficient at only 87. that means with less power the ED sub well be equaly loud... and only would take around 800watts to et 2 of these very loud in a ported box. which at only 1.2cubic feet per sub yyou would have room for ported boxes. to awnser your question though it looks like in a sealed box the shivas well handle 650watts rms a piece. so a good amp for these subs would be a JBL 1200.1 A.D.D. on 07/24/2004 08:37:08 im not sure about ED....ive heard a lot of bad things about them....like them over rating the rms..and people blowing the subs..or just an all around crappy sub....im not sure if this is true but thats what i have heard swez on 07/24/2004 09:05:35 The Shiva is a solid SQL sub. They are not flashy, they can take a good deal of RMS power and deliver a very linear bass response down to 30 Hz. A 600 RMS amp like the JBL BP600.1 is a very good match for these subs. Yes, they can take more power... but can your electrical system handle a 1200 watt amp? (current draw over 110 amperes) Sealed enclosure, figure your target internal cf between 1.0 - 1.25 cf per chamber. This will provide deep bass and good power handling as well. If we go larger, the bass can get a bit boomyorsloppy. (not tight and and well defined) The subs may become stressed from over excursion. The enclosure mentioned will net very good low and take plenty of RMS power as well. If you have a box now that is ~1.50 cf, try it. If boomy or sloppy bass at higher output, may have to add some mass inside the box to bring the internal dimensions down for a tight, solid Bass Engine. Swez A.D.D. on 07/24/2004 21:59:12 how big of a ported box does a single shiva like? uochronos on 07/24/2004 23:36:26 sorry ADD wasnt trying to sway you just carrying on from your other post since you said you want to get every last spl you could get out of the subs you get... as far as ed over rating therre stuff i have not seen this infact if you email them with the enclosure you have it in they well tell you what they recomend for power handling in that enclosure.. i personaly have a Kx series in my wifes car and its only rated at i believ 400watts rms and i'am giving it 600watts handles it like a champ and no over excursion or over ehating.. as far as them blowing alot that was due to a structural falw in the flat cone design which was mostly weak when the subs where pushed very hard and they have since gone back to a more mainline cone that has fixed that problem from all people i have heard reviews and comments from... however if you are happy with the output of the shivas they are a wonderfull sub my first post was just assuming you still where trying to get a ton of spl out of the subs you got. A.D.D. on 07/24/2004 23:48:45 what would be best for this box.....for 1 12...its 2.8 cuft without the port displacement...the 2 ports are both 4" in diameter and 18" long uochronos on 07/25/2004 00:25:52 if you wish just a single ported sub i would go with the shiva that is right in the porting size.. it says 85-100liters for size of a ported box. that converts to right areound 3cubic feet... this would be a fairly cheap way to go and still get quite alot of SPL and good levels of SQ out of it as well... with the proper amping say 500watts you can probaly get this single driver very loud. A.D.D. on 07/25/2004 00:32:26 so..what exactly is my box's cuft and tuning? A.D.D. on 07/25/2004 00:44:24 how is the cdt hd-1220? u know uochronos? A.D.D. on 07/25/2004 00:56:39 nvm its to deep swez on 07/25/2004 06:05:07 Go to the Adire website and look at the white paper files on the Shiva. It has all sorts of detail on enclosure specs and application notes. Ported: http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/VentedShivaApplications.PDF Sealed: http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/SealedShivaApplications.PDF Swez PS The website shows a down firing application, but you can configure the box as needed to fit. The key here is to pick the box cf that will fit. The 85L (3.00 cf) will be the most managable size. The vent flare kit optimizes at ~20 tuning freq. You may want to contact Adire and request recommended port size to use in the 40 Hz range. PSS This is an 8+8 DVC. You will want to use a 2 channel amp bridged, to power 1 Shiva @ 4 ohms. A.D.D. on 07/26/2004 01:52:23 so would my box work for a single shiva? swez on 07/26/2004 08:46:52 I don't know your box... we never met....hard to say w/o more details there bud. Swez A.D.D. on 07/26/2004 13:32:45 i posted the deminsions above, its 2.8 cuft without port displacement...the 2 ports are both 4" in diameter and 18" long swez on 07/26/2004 15:38:19 So more like 2.5 cf with ports and sub displacement... should be OK if the ports are tuned right.
