I recently posted about porting a box for a 12" Alpine TypeR but then we go into questions about getting my system right with what I have so here is the original post: http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/?g1968_1614 Right not I am not happy with how my sub sounds. I don't really like how the bass sounds. It sounds harsh almost like its distorting but not quite, the bass is not that crisp sounding. And it doesn't matter where I have the gain set because when I turn it up it still sounds the same. I also am not using any boost off my head unit and very little on the amp. My box its approx 1 cu/ft, 0.98 to be more of an exact number after calculations. It was a store bought box and just to make sure it was perfectly sealed I used some silicone along the seams and around the terminal cup. My crossover on my JBL 300.1 amp is set about 1/3 of the way up. As I stated before the dials don't match up with the indicator positions on the amp settings. The crossover range is from 32hz - 320 hz. So half way up would be 144Hz and a quater would be 72hz. I have it set about half way between a quater and half. With my HU its is a Kenwood KDC-2019. Set to a flat setting with the loudness turned off. I know this is a low prepout voltage HU and it could be sending a bad signal to the amp, I dunno. And my sub is SWR-1241D 4+4ohms wired in parallel to net 2ohms. If anybody has any thoughs on how to fix this the would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jay Replies (4) racerbizoehm on 07/23/2004 18:08:06 might sound simple, but do you have the correct polarity neg to neg pos to pos?I have no clue what else would be wrong asplundher on 07/23/2004 18:10:42 Good point. Also what kind of vehicle is it in and how is the woofer setup? swez on 07/23/2004 19:19:11 That box should be a good match for your sub. Am not sure what you mean buy the sub sounding harsh??? If the LPF is set between 10-11:00 position on the dial settings, does it sound any better? You mentioned a setting that sounds pretty close to me. The enclosure... is it pretty air tight? Press the cone down (in) and observe how long it takes to return to normal at rest position? If the cone come right back, air leak. If the cone slowly returns to at rest position... good seals. Wiring in phase is also a good thing to check. Both Pos to + terminal on amp. Both Neg to - terminal on amp. This has got to be a real frustration to you LC1. Can you take the box to a friend with a good sub amp and try your box & sub out on his/her system? If the sub sounds bad then... sub/box problem is likely. If the sub sounds good, your system (HU----->Amp) is in question. Hang in there... we'll get some bass, Swez racerbizoehm on 07/23/2004 21:49:06 one point about sealing, i can press on mine and will take awhile to return, but still leaks lol, what i am saying it should take a looooong time Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
