is it possible to hit 140-150 db's in a single cab truck? one that will get loud as heck and sound good while doing it? Replies (12) racerbizoehm on 07/22/2004 22:27:40 hell yeh im gonna lol, um without modifiying the cab i dont know about that one, the small area for bass to go works good though, thats why ya need dynamat and all that crap I got a 94 f150 reg cab and rattles like nuts Im planning on running 2 12 bahn aw122Ts 550 rms a piece SVC, and 2 Pioneer GM-X862 amps with about 400 rms bridged a piece in a 2 CU F sealed box, do you got anything right now? A.D.D. on 07/22/2004 22:33:47 nothing..sold it....but i can get a 3 cube box behind the seat....but the subs need to be 6" or under...my beable to fit a little bit deeper uochronos on 07/23/2004 00:08:11 140-150db is alot of sound in a single cabe truck... if you want this much SPL you well need to plan very carefully i plan to hit around 140db in my truck but its a extended cab ranger and it took alot of planing..... the probelm with single cabs is lak of box room,. in your case i would got with like 3 8;s ported 2 10's ported or a single 12" ported... if you can find the right 12" sub and put it in a large ported box 2-3foot you may be able to hit thoughs numbers. unfortunatly with a small truck you get very little cabin gain to help you along. please tell us a bit about your plans and we well be able to come up with some very good options. 1. What is your budget for amp and subs? 2. what type of sound are you looking for? deep boomy? tight and acurate? are you going for pure SPL or SQL? or a mix? 3. have you upgraded your electricals? because with the type of SPL you weant to hit you are going to draw alot of current/ honestly wanting to hit thoughs numbers unless you plan to compete is a bit of over kill. at 140-150db you wont want to be in that car... i was in a truck once with 3 12" JL W6's with 1200-1500wats and with it turned up i had no want to be in that car it just plain was uncomfortable. and i dont think that was hiting anymore then 125-135 but on its peaks and big hits it just didnt feel good. if this is a daily driver and you just want it really loud i suggest aiming more in the 120-135db range this is what my last subs where hitting in my old car aproxamatly and they where louder then anyone i know. so if this is more to impress friends 120-135 well do it in most cases. A.D.D. on 07/23/2004 00:18:03 well i will enter some local comps so i want something that might beable to get some good ranks. i have around 800 maybe more for the amp and subs..the electrical system hasnt been upgraded yet uochronos on 07/23/2004 01:26:09 if you plan to be hitting 150db then 800$ is not going to be enough. just some aproxamate priceing here first electrical upgrades because to hit 150db well take alot of power. you well need a high output alternator 200+amps this well cost 200-400$ also a high CCA battery 750-1100amps CCA here. also upgrading of power wire from alternator to batery and from ground on batery to chasis of 4-2gauge wire. batery and wires maybe 150-200$.... then either 1 compition grade sub or 2 mattering what is decided probaly 200-500$ if you shop real well. then an amp capable of powering the monster it well take to to produce that much SPL maybe 200-500$ matering brand and rms wattage.... also a very well designed box if you build it yourself maybe 100-150$. thats for glue, cocking, screws, 3/4 and 1" mdf, wire terminal, and other misc parts or tools mighht be needed. i may be leaveing stuff out but this is close to what you well need to pull off numbers like you want. this adds to aprox. 1200$ this is by no means an exact numbers but it well be quite expensive to pull off 150db in a single cabe truck. building my system i have spent near 2000$ and thats \with shopping alot and waiting for deals. and mine is only going to hit around 130-140db and thats with it turned up high. its also based around being an sq system but built to be loud. and i have room issues and its an extended cab. not trying to discourage you infact i would love to see this happen it would be a cool set up. just want you to know what your getting into trying to hit those kind of numbers in a single cab truck. A.D.D. on 07/23/2004 02:27:41 so is 120-130 a more reasonable goal? uochronos on 07/23/2004 05:48:50 120-130 is a more reasonable goal for your price range,,,, once you get into that high of a range 140+ every 3 db can be spendy to get.... also because of the depth issue there are not alot of extreme SPL subs that well work. to get 120-130 looking at either one sub in a well designed ported enclosure or maybe 2 subs in slightly smaller ported enclosures.... i would say around 800-1000watts well probaly get you numbers in the 120-130 range with a decent sub jl, kicker, Elemental designs, and adire are all good subs to look into for this aplication.. i suggest 2 of the 11Kv.2 series elemental designs subs they are 5.25" deep and only take1 cubic foot each ported.. these may be the netry line to elemental designs but trust me they well be loud. i have a single 12" Kx series sub which is below the original K series. and it gets loud and is very clean.and its in a sealed box. i think 2 of the Kv2 subs in ported boxes with 1000watts would be both loud and clean. and at 80$ each for intro price well withen your price range and leave lots of money for an amp. or you could get the packge deal from them including amp (2) 11Kv.2 Dual 2 + (1)eD NINe.1 Amplifier $430.00 Pre-Order* / Regular Cost $515.00 - thats a good deal and under your limit.... the 1200watt amp may require an alternator upgrade though... might be wiser to find 800watt amp somewhere else. racerbizoehm on 07/23/2004 14:17:21 if it got to be that loud, yeh you would only want it for competition, and windows wouldnt last too long either lol Bigeazy4387 on 07/23/2004 15:23:07 add have you considered cutting the metal out under your rear windows if you do that then it is definately possible to hit in the high 130's because you'll have the space to put some serious subs i would just take it slow start by upgrading your wiring, battery, alternator first.if your going for comp make sure you at least dynamat the wall and floor behind your seats i would do the doors 2. you do all that and be patient till yo cash flow come in and they wont know what hit em at comp racerbizoehm on 07/23/2004 17:10:15 yeh even with one of my 12 inch kicker comps, i got stuff making nose outside the truck, gotta make sure everything is airtight, thats what i hate about comps, because all the good systems you can't hear lol racerbizoehm on 07/23/2004 17:12:49 have you looked at the topic 4 subs setup by me, got a whole discussion about subs. I guess Swez didn't jump in here yet swez on 07/24/2004 09:43:26 Be realistic about your expectations here ADD. A solid pair of 12's in 1.0-1.25 cf sealed will give bery good over all SPL and above average SQ. As mentioned earlier, cabin gain effect is minimal in this vehilcle as there is just so little cabin space to work in. A moderate powered amp of say 600 - 800 RMS @ 2 ohms should be plenty and few electrical upgrades may be possible. Can your present electricals handle an extra load of 40-70 amperes of current draw. A 100A+ ALT should be able to to that and a solid 900 CCA battery. If you want a shallow mount 12" sub for SQL, consider a pair of Adire Shivas. If you want more of an SPL setup, then Bahn or other high efficiency subs (with shallow mounting) will do the job well. Bahn has a few potent SVC (4 ohm) subs that are both inexpensive and can take high RMS watts... BAHN: 1. 1. http://www.cardomain.com/item/ABNAW121T Audiobahn AW121T $149.95.ea. 4 ohm SVC, 550 RMS/sub (sealed or ported designs OK ) 2. http://www.cardomain.com/item/ABNAW120T $129.95/ea. Audiobahn AW120T $129.00/ea.; 4 ohm SVC, 500 RMS (ported design only) Check the max. depth on them as I do not recall how deep these are. Swez PS The Shivas are moderate efficiency and need a bit more power to hit high SPL numbers you mentioned. Close to 140 dB with the setup mentioned is possible in the 50-75 Hz range. The Bahns are more efficient and less power is needed to get higher SPL numbers. Bahn prefers the larger enclosure... but sealed and 1.5 cf/chamber should give you pretty good SPL numbers and fair SQ performance. (AW 121T) Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
