ok so i was at the local kicker dealer today and heard 2 15" comp VR subs...and WOW they were loud and sounded ok. so i asked what kind of deal they would give for 2 12's and a amp....this is what they told me Comp VR 12"-------$65 each...so 130 for both Kicker 400.1 amp(i think its not enough power though)------$319 for one of thier boxes-----$60 Amp Kit------$29.95 Install------$65 and Tax-----$44.87 --------------Total of 588.82----------------I dont know how he got this number, when i added it up it came out to be 648.82 but i dont need them to build me a box, install it, or the amp kit....so it will be around $488 maybe less so i was wondering what yall thought about that...or if i should look at something around the same price that will SLAM harder than this Replies (6) swez on 07/22/2004 07:23:12 These subs are rated for 400 RMS each. If you go ported, figure ~2.0 cf/sub, tuned to a tad below 40 Hz. The price is good. Get the 2+2 DVC's. These have a mounting depth of 6". The amp mentioned is a bit small for a pair of VR's. Figure 600-800 watts RMS at a 2 ohm load. The price he gave you on that amp is ~10% off list price. Can do much better off e-bay or look for a different brand with more power. Make your own box to fit your vehicle. Swez A.D.D. on 07/22/2004 15:02:15 well i cant go ported with 2 subs...the biggest box i could probly get behind the seat is around 3 cubes. another thing i was wondering was how the the CVR's sound compaired to the L5 and L7? compvr15s on 07/22/2004 16:20:08 i had 2 12inch L7s before upgrading to my compvr 15s. i would definitly recommend the comp vrs over the L7s mainly for the price. but with the L7s the whole cone is that plastic material not too sure exactly but i noticed on my two that they just had a different sound sometimes, wasnt a bad sound but just different. as for the 400.1 that will be plenty of power.i have a buddy that had that exact same setup in an explorer i know get a lot of cabin gain but i wouldnt doubt that it was nearly as loud as my 2 15s runnin off of 2 kx600.1s that seems like a good price, can get that amp much cheaper off line though, i bought both of my kx600.1s for about 620 plus shipping. there is better gear out there but im happy with my comp vrs, good luck Bigeazy4387 on 07/22/2004 20:45:41 thats funny i had two L7 tens in a vented box that kicker gave me the specs for and they sounded better than any sub i've owned. right after i blew them i bought 2 compvr 18's and they were louder and sounded better compvr15s on 07/23/2004 12:55:32 alls i know is that my 2 15 comp vrs blew away the L7s that i had, i blew probably 8 or 10 L7s for some odd reason not runnin them too hard or anything, i hooked up my comp vrs with out changing the settings on my amp and i have not blown one yet. its kind of hard to compare an 18 inch woofer to a 10 just because of the size difference. the 18s are in now way SQ subs, they are their to produre high amounts of bass and thats pretty much it. i dunno why your 10s now are louder than your 18s were, unless im reading that wrong. maybe its just me but i would never go back to the L7s again, they looked better than the comp vrs but thats about it. Bigeazy4387 on 07/23/2004 15:51:27 your reading right maybe they werent i was just very inmpressed by them and loved the way they sounded im not trying to diss the compvr's they are awsome 2 i just loved what i got out of my L7's but i cant seam to figure out y they would blow so easy i took 1 of my tens and played it for 9 hours straight at 720watts before it finally melted the coil i abused the heck out of them and they took everything i threw at them. of course these were the first generation black coned L7's that might be the difference and your right you cant compare 18's to 10's i shouldnt have but the decibal meter dont lie the tens hit 138.6dbs with just a 560w power acoustik amp ive never seen any tens do that before in the trunk of a large sedan Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
