hi I did a install in a 1994 Ford Escort with a Boss Riot 250w RMS 2 chann class A/B amplifier 0-18DB boost with a Aura 10,000 RPM subwoofer. Apprently there were some problems with some of the install work on the deck which was done at circut city. His entire system stopped working and the sub was blown. He took it in to an audio repair place they charged him $80 dollars to fix the problem. The best he understood was there was a problem with the way they connected the power to the deck. It use to be my old amplifier and I had a subwoofer blow out on it. (Phoenix Gold 10") could this be due to the cheap crossover on the amp? The subwoofer was wired in 4ohm bridged and the sub is a SVC 4 ohm 200w RMS. I have a feeling it could be the amp is the reason for the blown sub. What do you guys think? Replies (2) swez on 07/20/2004 19:15:42 Could be a number of things to cause this: 1. Excessive amp clipping (very bad clipping perhaps w/ bass boost on) 2. HU has a problem and sending DC to sub amp and sub 3. Power supply in Amp is passing DC along with AC signals 4. Wrong box size/design for sub used Swez Munchiesyumm on 07/21/2004 12:23:05 Yeah I agree.. The specs on that model were very poor compared to it's compeditors. It has a very low output for the sub with no boost on lower than level with the trebble but as soon as you put that +18DB it makes it hit. But the boss amp is class A/B Class 2 and not effeicent at all. So we came to the decision of selling it on ebay and putting that to a Crunch BMX400 amplifier and replace the sub with another 1O most likely an audiobahn or pioneer model.
