Hey I told my dad I would install his new deck for him, but i can't figure out how to remove his old POS. You have to take the front dash off to get at the deck. the car is a 1999 cavalier 4dr sedan. how do i do this? someone help please??? EVERYTHING that makes up the dash from the drivers door to the passengers door has to be removed. take off the fuse covers on both ends of the dash, and pry up the piece under the windshield. there will be incredible amounts of 7mm bolts holding the entire dash together, but once you get those three pieces out, it gets a lot easier. start pulling the dash out, making sure you don't miss any bolts. if something feels tight, you are missing a bolt. all together, the amount of bolts is 15 or 20 or something like that. good luck, -UK ttocs on 07/18/2004 13:24:26 open the doors and pull the side covers on the end of the dash. Behind them you will find one screw each. Remove the screw holding the windshield defroster airvent, and then remove the screw under it. Now open the glove box and look on the top of the inside. There will be 2 brass colored 9/32"(7mm) screws as well as a couple of black ones. Once all of these are removed, you should be able to easily pull the entire top dash(including the airbag cover so be carefull), and put it off to the side somewhere that it will not be stepped on or kicked. If it is not comming out then there is something that you missed. Now I believe if you look around the black plastice piece surrounding the gauges, there are 3 more screws that come out, then the cover will come off. There are two hrn's attached to that piece so don't take off running once you think it is loose. There is more work here then we would like, but my personal record to get the factory deck out was 17 min...... cplkittle on 07/19/2004 01:25:47 not bad, ttocs. My first time was in the 40's. I did set a record of most cuss words per minute though. UKinstaller on 07/20/2004 09:06:43 yeah my first time was somewhere around an hour, and there was a lot of frustration. one of the guys at my work got one out in about 10 minutes once, but it was probably the 20th cavalier he had worked on. -UK Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
