Stolen Stereo

My old stereo just got stolen from my car. I bought a new Pioneer, but when I plugged it in, the unit didn't turn on. I took it back to the store, and they said it was fine. Any ideas? I have already checked the ground and the fuses.

Thanks

did they cut your wires or do you still have your factory harness??

as uk mentioned did you use a wiring harness or splice into factory wiring. if you didnt use a harness more than likely you just have some wiring messed up. alls you need is a constant (red), switched(yellow),and ground (black) to power your system up. make sure to check and see if you have these three correct. if you dont make the proper changes and then if that dont work come back and we can elobrate more. good luck,

You know, I lucked out because all they took was the stereo (not just any stereo, by the way, it was a stereo that didn't work very well, and probably worth less than the factory stereo), and didn't cut the harness or break a window or anything. But besides all of that, I realized I know jack about cars today.

My friend from work poped the hood and opened another fuse box, and said he found the problem just like that. I saw that box, but it didn't say "Radio" on it like the fuse box inside the car on the driver's side did, so I thought that was it.

Anyway, the stereo works now. Thanks, and sorry for wasting you guy's time.

not a waste of time at all... i personaly went threw 2 cars and 3 stereo installs before i had one of those tricky secondary fuses blow and get stumped myself:) there are no stupid questions we all learn from evry experience.

now that they know your car has or had a deck, it would be a good idea to get an alarm to keep this from happening again....

hrns's do not normally just plug in from one deck to the other unless they are the same make/model.....

Well, the car was parked in a spot I don't normally park for that night. And me and wife are taking the face off every time we exit the car now, too.

Oh, and just so I remember correctly, was the fuse the same as the one with the domelight? Because the domelight worked fine the whole time...

to make finding blown fuses easier i just recently changed all my fuses to these new ones i found at autozone they light up when they are blown taking all the guess work out. you can see which one is gone the second you open the fuse box.... it cost me about 30$ to do every fuse in my truck but thats including the bigb fuses too.

also just a comment ttocs is very right we parked my wifes car in a bad spot one night and the deck and some other stuff got jacked then we parked it in its normal stuff the next night and they broke in again only god knows why there was nothing left and its just a geo storm... then we parked it right next to the managers office in are apartment complex and they still tried to break in but that time someone heard it and chassed them off...since then we simply dont lock the doors on it since there is nothing in the car its only used to get her to adn from work.... so i would get and alarm or be extremly carefull because thieves do like to come back breaking into a vehicle is hard and a little nervy the first time but once you have done it become easy.

I personally like the theft deterrent I saw on tv about a year ago.. it has since been outlawed. They rigged up either 4 or 8 small flamethrowers that pointed upwards from under the doors.
They also have one now with an exploding capsule of clear dye that sprays the perp's shoes with an uv reactive dye. you can only see it under a blacklight, but it lights up like a firefly. I am sure it is close to the same stuff I used at the carpet mill to make bowling alley carpet illuminate under blacklight.

I'd like to get strips of metal under the door handels so if someone grabs them without turning the alarm off they get zaped by like 12 volts, hehe.

Try adding a pulse triggering system connected to an older style spark plug coil. That'll give em 30-40,000 volts... (very low current) and one heck of a zap they wont soon forget.

Hummm, now that I think of it... there is a good use for Surge caps... anti-theft deterrent. Zappola

hahah.. i think the worst law ever... would be the one where its legal for a theif to sue YOU if he hurts himself while trying to break into/steal your car/goods. How rediculous is that... so if he breaks your window, and cuts his hand, he can sue you for that. .. I personally just have 2 peizo sirens inside my car that hurt so bad, noone can sit in it for more than 1/2 second before they have to get out... and until these thieves start wearing earplugs when they break into my car.. i should be fine :)
