hey, whats the best way to get all the acid crap off of ther terminals and what would you say would be the best kind of terminals for car audio, becuase I've had problem with mine washing off with water and then puting a coat of the yellow battery protector stuff, but still seems to attract that dam acid, what do you guys use?

Clean with baking soda and warm water... the rinse with warm water.

Also, clean the cable connections with a wire brush, (disconnect Neg BAT terminal first please) then coat each terminal with lithium grease or petrolium jelly.

swez is right grease is simpler and cheap abnd effective... i personaly never had good luck with the spary on stuff from auto stores it seemed to work for a bit then stop.... then i switched to a gel cell optima and i havent really looked into why but ever sense i got one i havent got any coroding around the terminals a friend told me this was a feature of the gell cells but i'am unsure... not that it came up i may have to check into it:)

Old mechanic's trade secret... he figured out that baking soda and water tamed his heartburn, why not battery acid too? It worked and then he had an old greasy rag nearby, grabbed that and the rest is history... no more corroded battery terminals after lunch.

BTW, just because something is new or seems "high-tech" doesn't mean other old methods are useless. In fact, many old folks are a wealth of knowledge if we just slow down long enough to ask and await their response.. No extra charge there Racer.. GRIN

I always used a coke.... The acid in the coke will actually eat the corrosion, and the carbonation helps to break it up. Use sparingly and wipe carfully with a lightly damp cloth. Really, try it.......

If you leave a nail in a coke, it will actually get eaten up in a week......

I heard if you soaked a steak in it for that long it would too

lol next time you drink a coke or any cola really think about the flavor as your drinking it hehe its really foul tasting just the sugar and your bodies want for the caffine make it seem really good hehe. in reality the syrup without the sugar is extremly strong they used to not sure if they still do prescribe stright cola syrup(no sugar) for extreme nosia cases. it works but tastes horrific.

I have an optima battery, and I am having problems with the negative terminal only corroding. I am using gold plated Tsunami posts, didn't think that would happen.. I will try these suggestions as well.

uochronos on 07/19/2004 03:06:01
maybe it is the terminal... i have a set of autozone terminals but not the gold plated ones and they have never corroded.

that was my first problem only the negative then it started at positive
