Hello there guys. in the next few days i will be buying subwoofers and amps. I already have 4 6.5" 150 WRMS 300 W Max at 4 Ohms. I am planning to get an Amp for that and i saw one at this link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5708912184&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT I have a 1996 Mazda Miata so you can tell the battery is small. when i went to the audio shop they told me i have to buy caps but as i read on this website before caps are not that good. anyway, due to the size of the trunk i have very limited options and i think this one should be good http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5708314409&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT i know its only 500 WRMS but again, i have a very limited options. I also need an Amp for that. what will be the best sound setup for my car and what do you think of what i choose. i have Sony CDX-757MX 10-disc CD/MP3 Changer and a Sony XR-CA650X Cassette player. what will be a good amp for the subwoofers (i mean what its properties wrms, max watts, ohms, mono or 2 channel, etc.) sorry for making this long and thank you for your help. Replies (5) cplkittle on 07/15/2004 15:26:10 caps will help depending on the music you listen to.. They are good for rock, country, and some pop music... they are not that good for music containing sustained low frequencies. I would do the install and test the reaction of the headlights when the bass hits. If there is absolutely no dimming-no problem. Slight dimming can be remedied by either a cap or a larger battery. moderate to heavy dimming and you definitely need a larger deep cycle battery and probably a higher output alternator. If the bass kills the engine at an idle like my cousin did, you definitely need to spend some money on a total upgrade. -Always use the same size ground wire as the positive (batteries, alternators, amplifiers, caps) -using too small of a wire will cause excess heat and other problems due to an elevation of amps to make up for the loss of volts (an 8gauge wire on a 1000w amp can make the lights dim. This can be fixed by upgrading wire size). The subs you mentioned.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5708314409&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT These are low grade subs even for the flea market. You get what you pay for.. Trust me, it is better to wait and save up your money to buy something that will last and perform the way you want it to. MX5_Miata on 07/15/2004 15:35:32 thank you for the reply. i was thinking of sticking with what i have ( the 4 300 watts speakers) and just buy an amp for those and then see what happens. well, my other questions is, did i choose the amp right for the speakers or is it too big? my speakers are 4 ohms, 159 wrms each. there are 4 of them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5708912184&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT thank you again for your help. cplkittle on 07/15/2004 15:42:04 This looks to be a decent amplifier, and with a 6 year warranty, that is a good deal. This should match up well with the speakers you have. swez on 07/15/2004 17:27:36 This amp will probabloy pull close to 50A of current when you play it hard. I would anticipate 30 x 2 fuses in here as well. Should give you good SPL and depending on the interior speakers used, even some decent bass too. If you add a sub later, consider a small sub/amp package like Infinity basslink. A 10" powered sub, 200 wrms Class D amp and a passive radiator too. Off ebay, am sure they are under $200.00 Not head banging bass... but clean, clear and distinctly balanced bass. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32822&item=5708642506&rd=1 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5tOO51F0058/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=108BASSLIN About power issues... Kit is right! You may have to do some upgrades on the electrical system of your vehicle to accomodate this amp and sub later. This car may struggle with the 4 channel alone. Swez MX5_Miata on 07/15/2004 20:16:44 Thank you guys again for your help, I really appreciate it. I guess I will buy this amp for now and see if my electrical system can take it. and as cplkittle said, the subs are cheap quality so I will probably wait and see. thanks for the help.
