i got that autotek ss-800x amp that you reccomended me for those koiiler subs. well i got the subs in yesterday and they were exactly what the ad said they would be but they were just really crappy. so im sending them back and i should get the amp in sometime this morning. now im back to where i was originally except that i already have an amp. can you help me out with getting some subs to go with this amp? i really like the idea of 3 10"s but i just dont know what kind to get with this amp and that wont cost me a fortune. thanks

The best way to get the most from this amp you have, is to use a pair of 4+4 DVC subs that can handle 350 - 400 watts RMS/ea. That gives you a perfect 1 ohm load to this amp.

Tri subs are not always louder or better... just cost more. There are a lot of 10's out there that will do a nice job... just depends on your budget. Tri-sub enclosure are big and can make a lot of noise, but they take up a lot of space too.

Can I convince you to reconsider and drop to a pair of 10's or 12's?
If yes, give me a budget number to work with and will give you a short list of sub options in that range OK?.

Swez

PS How much space do you have in this vehicle for sub enclosure?

3pointking on 07/13/2004 11:29:06
yes, i'll definitly consider a pair of 12's... i just want the most boom for my buck and still have good SQ if ya know what im saying. i have about 40 inches wide for an enclosure and i know that there is enough room depth-wise for any enclosure made for 2 subs. as for a budget, i guess i would like to keep from spending over $250... that may be alot for 2 subs and it may not be much at all, i really dont know but that is around where i'd like to keep it. but cheaper than that would be great if the subs are still good. oh ya, i have another question, am i able to have "above average" bass with this amp or is it not powerful enough?

Bigeazy4387 on 07/13/2004 14:06:57
speaking from experience i have 2 kicker compvr 18's so i know whats extremely loud i owned 2 solobaricL7 10's and they hit harder than both my 18's the only reason i switched is i blew them and didnt have enough money for another pair so check ebay out and if u find a good deal they will rip your head apart

Bigeazy4387 on 07/13/2004 14:08:55
if u do then hit me up at bigeazy4387@hotmail.com and i will get u kickers rated enclosure for them p.s. get dual 4ohm voice coils for a pair to hit 1ohm

kicker solobaric L7 subs dual 40hm $239+shipping a little over your budget but not by much

swez on 07/13/2004 14:29:33
I think his price range is more like Comp VR 12's here.

1. Kicker CompVR 12" , 4+4 DVC $150.00/ea. **.5
A decent SPL sub, below average SQ... bigger boxes net more low end bass.

Can look at Alpine SWR's, Infinity, and a few other subs later. My time is up for now. Will finish later.

Bigeazy4387 on 07/13/2004 14:38:32
i agree but the compvr's are a lot cheaper than that on ebay

Bigeazy4387 on 07/13/2004 14:40:07
check out ma audio if u want something different from the norm the have a pair of 12's on ebay for around 150+shipping

3pointking on 07/13/2004 14:58:34
the compVR's are $150 each which would be $300 before shipping (too much) and arent the solobarics too powerful (1200W each) for the amp i have?

PS i like the idea of solobarics if my amp could manage it and if not the alpine type S's would be pretty good too.

swez on 07/13/2004 19:07:39
There's nothing wrong with a single potent sub in the rear to jar your cup holder silly. Ya know, bigeazy spawned a thought in my thick skull as he has posted alot today... Why not a single L7, 2+2 dvc. You'll get 1 ohm loading, a solid SPL sub and enough power to make it sound very impressive if you wish.

SQ wise... once we get past ~110dB in a car, we are so inundated with SPL, we cannot really detect SQ very well anymore. The auditory nerves cannot, DO NOT function as normal. It's like hitting a "mute" button in our brain and the hearing begins to go into protect mode after a few minutes.

If you have a tight budget, (don't we all) one very robust sub makes a lot of sense. A little shopping off e-bay and some help from the other guys... am sure we can find you a very good SQL sub like Adire Brahma, eD series, Alpine or Infinity. Here we go....

1 sub options:

A. 16Ov.2 Dual 2 ohm $195.00*
400 - 950WRms - 1.5/1.8cF Sealed - 2.0/2.5cF Vented - 3 Year Warranty - Hand built (16" sub)

B. 13Ov.2 Dual 2 ohm $165.00*
400 - 900WRms. - 0.6/1.1cF Sealed - 1.2/1.5cF Vented - 3 Year Warranty - Hand Built (13" sub)

C. Kicker Solo-Baric S12L72
Shop this one off ebay for best prices

2 sub option (A pair of 4+4 dvc's needed here)

A. Infinity Kappa 120.3DVC ($130.00 ea.)

B. 13Kv.2 Dual 4 ohm $90.00* / MSRP $135.00 - -
150/550WRms. - 0.6/1.1cF Sealed - 1.2/1.5cF Vented - 3 Year Warranty - Hand Built

C. Alpine SWR-1241D (best price $109.00/ea.0

Specs: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-jOcJE0ynzJj/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=500SWR1241

Best price: http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?icatid=369&stk_code=alpswr1241d&svbname=30

OK, there's a good listing of subs that are under $300.00. The Kicker L7 is a bit steeper and if you shopped it hard off e-bay, may find it for about $300.00

what about this... there are 2 subs. they are 300W RMS

3pointking on 07/13/2004 23:40:26
is the solobaric too powerful? and is my amp capable of pushing above average bass?

Bigeazy4387 on 07/14/2004 01:49:13
swez u can get a solox for 300 on ebay the solobarics run all day long at 175 shipped

Bigeazy4387 on 07/14/2004 01:53:51
oh and 3pointking 1 solobaric in the right box will push well above average bass almost getting into the euphoric stage of car audio

swez on 07/14/2004 08:26:13
Yep... a single Solo-baric in a larger port tuned box will go pretty heavy on the bass line for you. The 2+2 DVC would be your option for a single one of these.

The other options... dual subs mentioned will do well too. Pick your poison!

High SPL Bass... go with 1 Solo-baric
SQL Bass.... a pair of eDesigns or Alpine SWR (4+4) DVC's.

ok, i think i am making the opposite of progress in my decision by saying this but i'll say it anyway... what about 3 of anything on this page

http://www.etronics.com/listproducts.asp?order=stk_price_a&catid=368&store=&Make=&Model=&type=&kit_id=&prod_type=&manaf=Alpine&cid=1A70D08821414542911A247B236197B5&image1.x=17&image1.y=11

i think i might still want 3 10's... i just like the look i guess. would 3 of any of these be good?

Bigeazy4387 on 07/14/2004 18:00:52
YOU LIKE ALPINES HUH THEY LOOK NICE BUT BEFORE YOU DECIDE ON ALPINE CHECK OUT THE INFINITYS ON THIS PAGE

OR THESE JBLS WOULD BE PERFECT

swez on 07/14/2004 20:07:51
The GTO 1020 is a nice sub. But your cost for 3 will be shopping e-bay as most web sites are about $100.00/ea. Am getting mixed signals on the voice coil ohmic value. A few sites say 2 ohms, another says 4 ohms.

The Alpine SWS series will work for this amp. The SWR is more expensive , but they are on par with the JBL's. The amp will take good advantage of 3 of them too... 1.33 ohms net. Use a set of 4 ohm SVC's or 2+2 type DVC's, if you go for a tri-sub configuration.

1. Alpine SWR-1021D 10" Type-R Series 2+2 DVC (300 RMS)
2. Alpine SWS-1022D 10" Type-S Series 2+2 (300 RMS)
3. JBL GTO1020 10" sub, 4 ohm SVC (300 RMS)

Any of these choices will do you well.

I think ive set my mind on either 3 SWS's or 3 SWR's. I know the SWR's are more expensive but how different are they in sound? And where can i find a diagram on how to wire these 3 subs to a single channel amp?

swez on 07/15/2004 11:48:51
RF, JL and MTX all have good wiring diagram info.

In the tri sub application, each sub is wired for 4 ohms. (both coils in series) Then, wire all 4 ohm subs in parallel to get a 1.33 ohm load.

Here: http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html#3dvcsp
