Alright here is a quick overview of my current system 4ohmbridged l HU:pioneer deh1000[older model] v amp:poweracoustik hyperbass series lt1440/2 [926w rated] subs:2 kicker comp vr 18's [sealed enclosure] front door:jbl gto 4" rear door:jbl gto 4" rear deck:jbl gto 6x9's complete stinger expert wire rca's 4ga. pwr/grd 10ga. spkr i have a buyer lined up for the 18's and was wanting some opinions on speaker choice.the original plan was spl but now i want something clean.my budget is $200 i am open to anything but i want to get away from the boomy sound of kickers.i have personally seen my amp at 2ohm bridged and it never broke a sweat so 2 4ohm subs will work fine but i have a lot of wiring options to play with so go ahead and post ideas i have about 9ft of airspace to play with so size isnt an issue all i want is some subs that u have owned/heard that will get me noticed on the streets and still sound good when my dad wants to listen to some classic rock.i am a young[15] audio enthusiast and have a well established base knowledge of box building/designing. i was thinking about maybe 3 tens or even 4 8's but any ideas are welcome i like the sound of ported enclosures so factor that in and i do have a ssf on my amp. thanks all for the help it is greatly appriciated Replies (15) Bigeazy4387 on 07/13/2004 01:17:29 the 4ohm ohm bridged is supposed to be over the rated watts of the amp Bigeazy4387 on 07/13/2004 01:20:39 p.s. subs rms power handling should equal at least 1000 Bigeazy4387 on 07/13/2004 14:24:13 sum1 plz post something aposynthesi on 07/13/2004 16:17:27 15 and into car audio. Hmm. Do you have a permit? I'm kidding. It will be HARD to find four 8's... or even three 10's putting out 1000w of clean sound for only $200. 3 Audiobahn AW100T 10's... which put out 400w rms each. 3 Rockford Fosgate RFP4210 (Punch Series) 10's... 400 rms each. I can't really find any SQ subs for that cheap... sorry. FROWN ttocs on 07/13/2004 18:39:52 I did a system for a buddy with 4 8's and was delightfully suprised at the sound. But if you are going from 18's to 8's, I don't know that you would be happy. You say you want SQ but leave the option open for 9 cubes? Be patient grasshopper, we will answer your q's but it takes more then an hour normally.... swez on 07/13/2004 20:54:51 Bahn subs make sense here and really a pair of 10's or 12's will do this job well. More of an SPL sub unless you get Alum Q12's. But these are 6+6 DVC's. Not sure your amp can deal with a 1.5 ohm load though??? (full parallel) A bit pricey too. (e-bay?) I agree.. Kickers are loud and boomy, depending on the enclosure used. Great for high SPL hounds... but not so hot for SQL daily drivers. Check out eDesigns... they have a large variety of SQL subs in several price ranges and power ratings. The cheapest place to buy is their outlet store at Audiohole.com or Clearance center. http://www.edesignaudio.com/kv2.htm http://www.edesignaudio.com/miva/merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=CLE See you are very active on posting already and that's great... FYI: Just be aware we are a PG rated site... please respect that basic premise and have some fun with the gang here. Welcome to CK! Swez Bigeazy4387 on 07/14/2004 01:31:00 thanx for the replys i wanted to change a few things i said from now on there is no price range as i can come across money. and ttcos that is a big change but thats what i want the 18's are just way to loud im the kinda person that can go from listing to pink floyd all the way to dmx.i have very unique tastes the 18s were a spur of the moment thing.i have owned a few systems all starting with a pair of cerwin vega stroker 10's[the best subs ive owned so far] i also had a pair of solobaric 10's that were awsome im just really looking to upgrade to something unique i was checkin out ma audio and the memphis power reference series sorry i wasnt specific enough.so here is what i want something unique that will turn heads.anything is open i was really kinda asking about everyones experiences and ttocs at the age of 15 ive participated in 6 audio competitions with my highest spl being 143.6db with my solobarics and the amp i have now so dont let the age fool u,u might see me at next years iasca Bigeazy4387 on 07/14/2004 01:35:27 oh and swez i wasnt dissin on kicker they did everything i asked them to including busting out my rear window[the real reason im selling] that didnt go to well with the parents aposynthesi on 07/14/2004 02:32:12 I just find it odd that a 15 year old is into car audio when he can't even drive the car solo legally. Bigeazy4387 on 07/14/2004 03:03:38 well lets just say i have to much time on my hands and trust me i got the same reaction at every comp i went to so your not the only 1 who has said that but people saying that may well be the reason im doing it.and u think 15 is young i participated in my first comp at 12 in cleveland tennessee i am an amatuer but im not new to the game so plz dont descriminate because of my age i didnt have to say it. i just dont want to be the person that no one listens to or takes advice from just because im young.oh and by the way i installed all three of my systems and built the box for each one by myself over the watchful eye of my dad of course but nevertheless he doesn't know how to wire dual voice coil subs does he im not trying to be mean i just get that reaction all the time Bigeazy4387 on 07/14/2004 03:05:39 oh and u shouldnt find it odd u should embrace me being this young and into car audio swez on 07/14/2004 11:03:24 We don't discriminate on age, race or the system you came in with. The key thing we look for is quality and detail of information that folks bring in or dish out. Could care less how young/old you are. It's not an issue. Just be aware that you are new to our forum and it may take a while for us to come up to your speed (or slow you down a tad lol)... whichever the case may be. Many come for help and looking for experienced hands and cool heads to guide them. You can add a lot of youthful exuberance to the mix too. We can tell plenty from a persons' responses, how much they know or lack. Just read the mail that comes in. The main thing here... accuracy of detail listed in the post and thoughful replies to them. So far, you're doing very well. Keep up the good work and teach Dad about DVC's... hehe Swez Old Man Audio (got 30 years + on ya there sport) but teachable I hope aposynthesi on 07/14/2004 11:42:23 Remember, I was the first person to respond. No discrimination - just odd. GRIN I started working on computers at the age of 12, then had my first job at a computer repair shop at 16... so I think its cool too. Bigeazy4387 on 07/14/2004 17:16:18 well thank you very much aposynthesi odd is what im going for and sez sometimes i do get a little over my head in here like some of your posts about car electrical systems and the ampres it needs ect. but i do know alot about wiring, box building/tuning,prices,and alot more so i will contribute as this is a great forum.but i have 1 question was there even aftermarket car audio 30 years ago?lol swez on 07/14/2004 20:23:54 Not really... was just getting started back in the 70's with Alpine and RF mostly. Very limited power in the amps offered then and the subs... there were not very many I recall. Mostly 6x9's and small dash or door speakers back then too. Most of my history in audio comes out of Home and Pro audio applications. Was a musician for ~10 years and made a lot of speaker boxes back then too. Now, I have learned a little about car audio these past 4 years and made a few more boxes, done a few installs and mostly preaching the power (or lack thereof) in many modern sub woofer systems. System choices and optimization of the whole package is my biggest contribution here. Am more of a Generalist in several topics, but leave detailed install questions to our residen Pro Installers.. ttocs, Kittle and a few others that are well qualified to respond. Have a decent background in Electronics/electrical circuits and power management too. Not a bonified "EE", but more than an ET (techie) and overall fatherly figure to the clan. The thing I can say ... keep up the good work, glad you have time to learn & burn... and good knowledge to pass out. Just go slow as I am older and cannot keep up with a teenager. Probably more your Dad's age.... and I know he probably says it alot... "Slow down there high pockets" ! lol Have a good one Eazy, Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
