Clarion HU Preout help

Just got a real quick question. I have a Clarion DXZ735MP deck that I'm going to hook up to an Eclipse 21010 EQ. The EQ takes in one full range preout as its input and is going to send both front and rear to my separate amp. The problem is this. The DXZ735MP has front and rear/sub preouts. I've read that you can get the rear preout as full range but I can't find how to switch between rear (full range) and sub mode. If anyone has an answer to that, I'd be most appreciative. It also has this thing called Dual Zone preouts which I'm wondering if I can use since that might be able to send both front and rear signals in preout voltage. Any thoughts would be awesome. Thanks

Dual-zone Capability: You can select separate audio zones for the front and rear seat passengers. The front zone is the source unit's regular front and rear channels, while the rear zone is a dedicated RCA line-level output for use with an external amplifier, headphones, or powered speakers. The front zone can be the tuner, internal CD player, or aux input. The rear zone can be the audio from any device connected to the CeNET input. By pressing a front panel button, the zones can be reversed. (note 1.)

Rear/Subwoofer Preamp Outputs: The rear preamp outputs can be set for full-range or subwoofer output. In subwoofer output mode, the preamp outputs have a selectable low-pass crossover that can be set to 50Hz, 80Hz, or 120Hz. You can adjust the subwoofer volume from -6 to +6 using the front panel subwoofer volume control. (note 2)

1. Looks like you can run the front channel preouts to your EQ and this will feed your interior amp and speakers. Does the Eclipse EQ have fader control as well as EQ features?

2. Use the rear/sub channel to drive your sub(s)... assuming there will be subs. You can run the rear channel full range and let the amps' filter the signal or use the pre-selected LPF settings in the HU. (80 Hz is good)

Thanks for the advice. I was hoping to use the EQ for full control (it takes a line level input and outputs front rear and sub signals. I was hoping to put those three signals separated there into different amps and have the EQ to control both front rear and sub. The EQ does have fader control. I was looking to use the EQ for everything, not just control the fronts. Any way to do that?

For the HU you noted, this is a good EQ for your application. The 5 bands plus parametric bass are good for moderate control. The 7 band version is even better for the very critical ear.

I looked at the web site and specs (.pdf files) on this EQ and it is not clear to me just how many input RCA's are actually available on this EQ. The outs seem to suggest Front/Rear & sub outs at up to 10 volts output. That suggests this unit has 3 sets of RCA outs. Fader is the clue and bass control for para-bass function. Not bad... Not sure how much gain structure (cut/boost range) you have to play with here either. Ahhha.. found it... +/- 12dB is operating range. Good nuff !

It does have an AUX input on front panel. Very good feature to add addition input sources for DVD, MP3 players and mini-discs, etc.

Specs for 21010 EQ:

Retractable Knobs for Easy Access to each Fader, Frequency, Level and Q Control and Precise Adjustment
Equalization Frequencies:
Parametric; 25 - 100Hz
Graphic; 250Hz, 600Hz, 1.5kHz, 4kHz, 10kHz
NOB Rotary Encoder for Master Level Control and EQ Defeat Function
Front Panel A/B Input Selection
High-Pass and Low-Pass Filters for Front &
Rear Channel and Subwoofer Output
Adjustable 0 to 4 sec. turn on delay
Input Level Control
Gold-Plated RCA Jacks
FR-4 (Military-Spec) Anti-Vibration Circuit Boards

Finally, this unit has a subsonic filter as well. Unfortunately, the value is fixed at 10 Hz. (-18dB/octave slope) Would be better if this filter were variable up to say 40 Hz if you plan on using a port tuned enclosure here.

PS Let me know if you get this as I will be in the market for a 1/2 din EQ myself. The 7 bander + para-bass is nice. I have a 5 bander now and it is just not enough midrange control for my tastes.
