Anyone Know Who Sells Dual Alt Setup

hey guys ive got a question and i hope someone can help me out here. I was wondering if anyone by chance knew of a company that builds brackets or a kit to run dual alternators. Im going to try and run my stock 100amp and another 200amp alt for my stereo system, possibly dual 200amp alts. (Getting into SPL -HIGH wattage- 3000+ ). I have a 95 Chevy Silverado 5.7Ltr V8 with AC and power Steering. Any help would be great. I can custom build a bracket but that would take more time than i have at the moment. thanks again

not 100% sure but i would check stinger, and then call some of the higher end shops in your area that do that kind of work. also ask the local car stereo places if they know. it may be something that has to be done from scratch a custom type job.

My guess is the same answer... check out the local shops that cater to SPL clients and see if they can give you a lead on how they do the electricals and who their suppliers are. Also, if you can find a local/regional DB Drag Comp in your area, go and check out what others are doing and how they did it.

CK is not really a "qualified source" for dispensing details on huge SPL setups. We focus on moderate SPL and mostly SQL setups here. Am sure there are other Car Audio forums out there that cater specifically to what you are after. Use the Google search engine and see what you can find OK?

PS There are probably several guys here that understand the components needed and the basic chain of steps... but actually doing a custom electrical install of this magnitude, may be out of our normal fields of knowledge. This is true on my part... maybe others can really help with the nuts & bolts of your venture.

check the carsound.com forum. There are some big names on there that are willing to help, as long as you can get past the attitudes and big heads.......

Alrighty thanks guys, ttocs ill go check out that forum and inquire around for some help. Swez Ill look around but this board still has a wealth of knowledge from people like you that i like to "tap" into so to speak. I appreciate te help thanks

Thanks Jason... but I have limits too! In this case, I am not up on the latest and greatest for HIGH SPL MACHINES. Yes, I do understand the basics and general aspects of an SPL Machine. But I have never done one, nor care to either. Too much $$$ for my taste and ultimate BASS has never been my interest... am an SQL kinda guy. Meaning, want it clean, want it accurate (in the full range 30-20Khz) and loud as I care... but balanced as well. The audio target I shoot for is concert level sound at studio mixing board quality.

Thats cool and I understand what your talking about swez. Im allways impressed by SQL systems as much as i am about SPL Machines. But personally ive allways been one for Huge wattage and Huge Bass, Just does it for me, but i also love the clarity and concert level sound from SQL rigs also. Im going to try and get a mix of both in my truck but mainly SPL cause thats what i eventually want to get into once i get everything tuned and running correctly.

Gotcha... sounds like a plan to me and will be happy to help you get as far as possible in that goal. (to the best of my abilities)

Are there any sanctioned DB Drags coming to your area soon? If so, try to plan a trip out to look, listen and ask a ton of questions while there. Am sure there are some forums out there like ttocs mentioned, where you can get more specifics on Mega Watt Bass systems.

Keep us posted on your progress,
Swez

Good nuff... go learn and teach us about High SPL systems. The electricals end of the deal is what I lack most in. Do know of a few guys that use multiple ALTs and a bank of batteries for the sub amps... but not the specific details on how all this is done.

you could be the spl guru medal..... Then you could start to soak up all the wonderous benifits of the dangling gold medal...

Ill keep you updated thanks
Oh yah..anyone know where i can get the meters/testers they use to check SPL output?like the TermLab or AudioControl 3055? i wanna see how much i do just with 2 twelves and check my progress as i go
THanks

Jason

PS: ill try to get some pictures when its all installed...

That sounds good ttocs it'll be a while but thats eventually where i wanna be with my knowledge..im actually thinking about maybe going to an install school (dont know which one yet) cause ive got the "audio" Bug pretty dang bad .

uochronos on 07/10/2004 15:01:02
audio control makes 2 or 3 indash SPL meters when i was considering getting one i went to www.froogle.com and typed in the model and found several fairly cheap also ebay had a couple listed when i looked

I see the rta's and mic's on the carsound for sale from time to time as well. You could put a WTB(want to buy) topic in and see what happens.

I see these pretty often, but only one or two at a time.

Alright cool thanks guys, ill let ya know once im hitting "respectable" numbers lol and ill keep you posted on my progress.

Yeah Baby! Come join the Golds... be part of the fun and share your learnings to help others.

In the meantime, learn about the port tuning system that will resonate pretty close to vehicle resonance. That number varies from ~55 to almost 75 Hz, depending on the vehicle. With an SPL meter and a test tone generator CD, can find Fr of vehicle when the SPL meter is highest, you have found a resonance node. Once you know the Fr target, port tuning to that node will give you maximum output SPL. When you start tweaking, you'll have hours of fun on this phase.

Some also use a dual port system. One for the "daily driver mode" and the other port(s) [plug & play designs are great] and the other for SPL COMPS only. Don't forget your ear muff hearing protectors above 120 dB or so. If you can hit above +150dB the first time out... that's a great milestone to break.

Yah maybe ill test this enclosure out for now..then start building a Dual Port Enclosure and plug one of them when im driving it for "daily driver mode". I know in the future ill know enough about SPL machines to become a Gold Member and help everyone else out..right now im just learning and having fun doing it. Already got Tone Generator CD's to find the right Frequency for the highest SPL output for my truck...after that ill build and tune another enclosure to that specific Hz. Next thing im purchasing is a SPL Meter. =) i hope ill do alright..i definently want to be able to hit over 150dB b4 i start competing..or at least near it for the certain class i want to compete in.
