I am planning on making some custom fiberglass kick panels to house a 6.5" component set for my car. I have two pairs of kick panels, so i plan on using one as a base template. There is not much of any clearance behind the panel, so i plan to make a hill like rise to accomodate the mounting depth of the speakers. I have worked in bodyshops before, but have never dealt with fibergalss. What are some heads up pointers? Also what type of shapeable material should i use to make the template mold? thanks guys -joe Replies (4) uochronos on 07/8/2004 05:42:40 i suggest going to www.alpine-usa.com and look at there demo cars they show step by step how they make them including all the fiber glass work very helpfull... also as for moldable materials i suggest finding some foam that is hard and shapable find it at hoby or model shops it is very helpfull mold it then cover with fiberglass:) ttocs on 07/8/2004 10:24:44 I have some pages on my favorites links at home that go through the steps. It is not all that hard, just a little messy. Fleece is great for the initial mold and then you build it up with fiberglass matt to get the strength needed. aposynthesi on 07/9/2004 13:21:31 My last project was a failure... I don't know if it was because I used fiberglass mat, which is unwoven. Would fiberclass cloth be easier, since it is woven? uochronos on 07/9/2004 14:32:03 differnt mats and cloth are used for differnt jobs hence why therre are dozens of differnt typs of mats and cloths picking the right one for your job well help alot. although it was probaly a failure because you dont use it alot... i did 2 or 3 test peices before actualy doing it on something i didnt want messed up.... its alot of patience required to get it right also if it doesnt turn out just right sand it dowbn and re layer it Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
