i have a 2001 ext cab s-10 and cant find a hole in the firewall to run my power cable. where would be the best place to drill a hole in it? Replies (9) uochronos on 07/5/2004 13:34:06 find a land mark on both sides of fire wall such as the clutch or other item thast can bee seen going threw the fire wall then find an area near that that is free of obstructions and double chck both sides then drill.... ttocs on 07/5/2004 16:21:25 what size wire are you running? Alot of times there is a grommet with wires already going through it and with a little work and the proper tools you can get through it as long as you are not talking #4 awg or higher. If it is then sometimes there are blank grommets, or sometimes a spot to put a grommet. It will look like a dimple and make drilling easier. If your truck is not a stick then there should be a spot like this for the clutch cable that your truck does not use. straightedge13 on 07/5/2004 17:20:18 im using 8 Ga wire. and im trying to run it through the passenger side. I've checked for a grommet to go through but cant find any that are accessible.it is a automatic, but wont the clutch be on the drivers side? racerbizoehm on 07/5/2004 18:23:16 you can also find buttons that hold insulation to the firewall thats where i put the wire through, my wire is ran on driver side though so whatever uochronos on 07/5/2004 18:30:06 the driver side is in my experince 90% easier to run a wire threw almost every time... in most cars i have worked with the airconditioning, heater core, etc is all on the passenger side making it dificult to see and get a usable hole... also remember if you drill your own hole to get a rubber gromet for arounmd the wire it well make it so no fumes get in from the engine compartment adn al well make sure the metal does not rub threw the wire. straightedge13 on 07/5/2004 20:12:17 I have looked on both sides of the truck for a grommet to run it through and there all hidden and can't get to.I was thinking about going through where the air conditioning and hearer core go, but figured that wasnt such a great idea. I would run it on the drivers side but wouldnt it be a pain runnin it from the battery on the passenger side all the way around the engine to the drivers side? I know i sound like an ass but all the cars i've installed amps in have been later models and battery on drivers side. Thanx for all the replys!! uochronos on 07/5/2004 20:33:12 wouldnt be too much trouble.. need maybe an extra 5 foot of bale and just run the wire alone the edge of the engine compartment zip tieing it down every couple feet or using metal tape and screwing it down. to make sure it does not move around. then run it threw the drivers side.... sicne its an automatic you can do what ttocs said and drill a hole where the clutch would be if it where a manual. and there you go you have a hole in a place where you know nothing esle is going to interfere with it. racerbizoehm on 07/6/2004 10:21:31 fords have battery on passenger side and i just ran it through the front of truck, I also installed one where it just goes along back of engine that works too, along the hood gasket. ttocs on 07/6/2004 11:38:28 your just asking questions, no worries. Have you pulled the carpet and kick panels to see what is behind them? Look up into the dash with a light on the drivers sice and you should see a place or two. Sometimes they hide them behind the factory sound damping. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
