http://www.streetwires.com http://www.hookeraudio.com/ http://www.monstercable.com/caraudio/ Any other brands you recommend? I'm looking for battery terminals, posts, ground wires, power wires, speaker wires... the whole deal. Replies (13) racerbizoehm on 07/3/2004 17:30:09 http://stingerelectronics.com or walmart sells that stuff too lol aposynthesi on 07/4/2004 00:52:34 Thanks. MAD uochronos on 07/4/2004 01:09:38 cable is cable supposedly oxygen free is a better signal but unless your getting real high end why spend 50+$ for a pair of RCA's or some 2 guage cable? if it makes you happy and you want the best JL, street wires, phoenix gold, monster cable etc all make great cables, wires, and RCA's... however i buy alot of RCA's and wires at radio shack mid quality wires that work great and are very sturdy... basicaly the same tech without all the flashyness.... i'm not saying that higher end wires dont haev any benifit... but you can get good gear with less price because its not flashy and name brand... just recently i needed 3 foot long shielded rcas... streetwires cheapest 3 foot rcas where 30$ radio shack sells rcas with almost identical specs for 6$.. basicaly unless your getting feed back or noise why spend 500$ on all your wires and RCA's? if you still wish to spend the money i like street wires for speaker wire, and pheonix gold for amp wireing kits and rca's. aposynthesi on 07/4/2004 01:42:06 I didn't know that, so I suppose that I'll just go buy some generic wire. uochronos on 07/4/2004 03:24:31 i reaklly do suggest radio shack for cheap decent RCA's... i get a set of shielded gold platyed RCA's 3 foot long for 6$ and they where very nice and in general would work for most systems and have no problems... i have 2 amps a nice EQ/Crossover and what not and now that its all set right i get no audible feedback or sounds in the feed... i think the 16 foot RCA's at radio shack where 20-30$... also they sell some very decent speaker wire 14-16 guage for i think 12$ for a 50 foot spool i use that in my home audio and car audio systems with no problems or complaints. the only thing i suggest to go reasonable high end on is the power wire from battery to amp this wire gets alot of abuse heat, bending, rubing, binding, etc and if it doesnt have a good insulation and decent wire inside it well break or short or corode faster then it should. swez on 07/4/2004 09:55:27 A good set of wires does not have to have a big brand name and a hefty pricetag on them. Have a look at this site for quality wires and hardware that are priced well for most budgets. http://www.knukonceptz.com/ Swez aposynthesi on 07/5/2004 03:02:54 30 feet of speaker cable, and 5 feet for power, and 5 feet for ground. Sound reasonable, or should I get more? For the speaker amp, would you have to run all of the speakers to the amp with speaker wire, then to the head unit with RCA cables along with a larger power cable to the battery? swez on 07/5/2004 07:59:22 Depends on the vehicle you are working with and where the amp(s) are to be located. Best to make an overall measurement of wire lengths from HU to amp and add ~25% so you have enough length to hide all wiring. Run your power feed line on one side of the car, RCA's on the other and speaker lines up the middle for the front stage speakers. If the rear stage speakers are close to the amp location, run short wires from amp, direct to rear speakers. Give yourself enough wire length to hide them all well. Hey Pro installers... do you guys recommend speaker line runs bundled with power feed or RCA lines or should all wiring be segregated? (max noise rejection) Swez Pinch on 07/5/2004 11:27:53 Since RCAs carry relatively low current and are usually shielded, I have always been taught that the EM field around them will be low as well. The power wire on the other hand may as well be glowing. As such, RCAs bundled with the remote turn on wire and the speaker wires is acceptable. To get nitty gritty though, separating all of them is better with the obvious caveat that avoiding factory wiring all together is important. Most vehicles have computers in them operating everything and are squacking back and forth at frequencies approaching cordless phones. Which reminds me, my girlfriend's cell-phone rang the other day and my speakers emulated her ring tone in static. And we're supposed to put this thing next to our head?!?!?! zInal3 on 07/5/2004 12:55:10 Hello ! have u guys heard about Van den hull wires/RCAs or Canare wires? theres not much of choice of wires for me here other than the cheap(poor) ones.. any infos about the brands mentioned above would be great ! swez on 07/5/2004 13:40:37 Good info Pinch! I tend to advocate running all wiring separate when possible. But can one get a good, noise free signal if the RCA wires are bundled to speaker output wires carrying say 50-100 Watts (@ 4 ohms) of audio signal? Yes, better RCA's are shielded and use twisted pairs to cancel out most incoming noise. But they only carry 1.5 - 8.0 volts of signal to the amp input section. On the other hand, the speaker lines back to front speakers (COMPS for example) now we are talking 14-20 volts of AC signal through unshielded wires. Will this create a noise problem? I am inclined to think it could... but what do others have to say based on install experience. My opinion is only a theory. I want real world experience to sort this one out. Yes, we all know that RCA lines should be kept away from power feed cables and data link busses... but, how far to go? Comments? Swez uochronos on 07/5/2004 13:57:01 lol pinch i had that same problem the other day i posted about having a ground loop and how to fix it well the day after i fixed it i got in my truck turned my cell phone on called my voice mail then turned the stereo on and the damn ground loop sound was back i sat there tweaking everything while listening to my messages then figured screw it i well deal with it at home and hung up and instantly the sound was gone.... i guess somewhere along the lines something picks up the frequency my phone operates on. racerbizoehm on 07/5/2004 18:20:42 I usually just goto radio shack, because it is the most convenient :) Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
