System Help!

Hi Everyone, I hope you can help me. The other day I was driving and I noticed when i pressed my break pedal the sound would break up on the speakers inside my car, but the subwoofers would still work perfectly. Eventually the sound would totally go out, but the subs still worked perfectly. I have had the system hooked up for about 8 months and there hasn't been any problems untill this. I checked all the connections and they seem to be alright. I have a 1998 Ford Contour SE. My Deck is a JVC KD-3150 which is powering the speakers that are screwed up. I did have to bypass the factory premium audio amplifier, but i used the factory wiring and an amplifier jumper harness. My speakers are Polk 6 1/2". I have only checked the connections, I wanted to check with you guys to see what you recommend before I do anything else. I have the ground wire from the deck connected to the factory harness, do you think this could be the problem, should I make a separate connection for It? Thanks for all your help.

are there any wires that you ran for your amp that are up around the brake pedal?? something could have come loose or fallen in that region that could be snagging when you press the brakes. get down there and look, press in the pedal while looking up and see if your pedal is touching any wires.

also, where is the factory amp located at in the car??

this is a pretty strange problem, so we can't rule anything out. are all of your speakers working fine whenever they aren't cutting out, meaning do any sound blown or anything like that?? also, whenever any exposed speaker wire touches metal, it causes all speakers to stop working. perhaps when you press the brakes, speaker wire somewhere, somehow, is touching metal.

check all of that good ole' stuff, and if nothing works, we'll have to figure something else out.

oh yeah, why did you bypass the amp in the first place??

take care,

no wires are near the brake pedal, and i think everything is ok, i bypassed the factory amp because it was broken. also I just was outside checking everthing out and i noticed when i had my key in the ignition the chiming bell that indicates this didn't come on or the dome light, by the way i had my door open and i then pressed the button that is inside the door panel that shuts off the lights to indicate that the door is closed, and the light and the bell came on, so i decided to try the cd player and it worked fine, then i shut the door and everything and opened my door and the bell and dome light came on this time. it seems that this might be causing the problem, i have no clue how to fix.

Sorry for the confusion, I am frustrated. When I pressed it and released it the dome light came on and the bell that indicates that a key is in the ignition came on. It should have came on as soon as i opened my door but it didn't. When it came on I decided to try the cd player, and it started to work. I just took it for another ride and it worked for a little while and then it started doing the same thing when i pressed the brake pedal. I double checked the wires and everything and it seems that every connection is ok.

if you think the problem is in the door pin, try switching out the door pin with the one in the passenger door. it should only be a screw or two and a harness. that is what i do whenever i am installing an alarm and there is a problem with the door pin.

also, does the whole cd player cut out when you press on the brakes, or does it stay on and the speakers cut out??

try switching out the pins, and lemme know what happens.

I fixed it, one of the many wires near the fuse box was loose, i think it was the one controlling the door pin, and was probably touching something metal while i was braking, it works fine now, thanks for all your help, i appreciate it.

That was was what I was going to suggest too.. checking the wiring that connects chime, door switch and fuse panel. A wire may be loose and causing you fits.

Glad you got there with help from UK and your own savvy.

PS The devil is always in the details! Good job mate!
