I own a 97 f-150 ext. cab I just had a Kenwood V7022 cd player installed with Polk two way speakers in the doors. I want to go with seperates, but I don't want to put holes in the door panels. I found seperate plate speakers from Audiobahn. (tweets and mid together). My question is how do I pull the door panels off? I don't really want to spend $ 100.00 to have them installed. If anyone has a link to send me to show me how this is done, I would be most grateful Replies (3) UKinstaller on 07/1/2004 18:02:33 well they are kind of a pain of a butt sometimes with F-150's because of the way that the trim around the bottom part of the window fits on the door when you try to put it back on, but it is definitely not impossible. The first thing you do is remove all of the screws in the door, I believe there are a few that run along the bottom part of the door panel, and a couple others elsewhere in the door. If you have automatic windows, the next step is to remove the panel. If you have manual windows, you have to remove the window crank using a crank removal tool. To actually remove the panel, start at the bottom left corner of the door and pull outward, releasing the clips that hold the panel into the frame. Work your way around the left, bottom, and right sides of the panel. When all is released, lift up on the panel to get it off the door, releasing it from the door completely. Remove any harnesses that are plugged into windows, locks, etc. and the panel will be off. That's all there is to taking off the panel. Good luck, and please, be careful because they are pretty easy to break if you try to pull the panel off and there is a screw you have missed. If something doesn't feel like it wants to pull off, then you are missing a screw. Hope everything goes ok. -UK Pinch on 07/2/2004 11:44:08 A lot of F-150s have panels which must be removed in an upward pulling motion, not an outward one. As UK said, remove all screws and then inspect the panel between it and the door iteself. You will be able to tell with a slight tug whether they are compression push-type fittings (which pull outward), or the legs (which slide upward). If you just yank outward on the bottom right away, you may break the legs off the panel, and then it will never sit right again... swez on 07/3/2004 08:09:30 If you mess up a compression clip, can alway replace these at your local autoparts store. If only minor damage to the inner door support that holds thesed clips (or trees), use hot glue to secure them to the the inner door trim. Do it well, and it will seal fine.
