OTQ: Best price/place for printer cartridges

Figured I'd tap the wealth of knowledge in this crowd and see what comes back.

Need some printer cartridges and comments on refill kits for these models. Printer makers seem to think they are making "LIQUID GOLD" out there. These inks cost more per Oz than Chanel #5.

Printer #1: Epson Stylus C80

This is my primary doc printer. Used OEM and have switched to aftermarket with good results. The aftermarkets are way cheaper, but I lose the ink monitor function with non-OEM cartridges. That feature does help with refilling before dry. Am not opposed to refill kits on this printer.

OEM # T032120 (Black)
OEM # T032220 (Cyan)
OEM # T032320 (Magenta)
OEM # T032420 (Yellow)

This Epson seems not to have the "smart chip"
What's a good price per cartridge on this model and where to buy?
===============================================

Printer #2: Lexmark X-1150 (PrinTrio, 3 in 1)

This is the problem child I am having trouble with. Using OEM cartridges now. Have tried a (Black only) refill kit and this cartridge has printed horrible ever since. FROWN

OEM#: 10n0016 (Black #16)
OEM#: 10n0026 (3 colors #26)

Would like to remain OEM or refurbished here as this printer seems very sensitive to refill kits. Plus, I do want to keep the Ink
level monitor working. I cannot seem to locate any aftermarket cartridges for this model and retail costs for #16 & #26 cost more than Gold per troy Oz. ($32.00 & 36.00) respectively.

Any suggestions on where to find low cost OEM/RE-MFG cartridge for Black and a quality refill kit for color & black on this model? THINK

Thanks in advance for helping Old Man Audio out!

Ahhhh, very good deal on the Epson aftermarket cartridges. Their re-mfg'd Lexmark black is not bad either. Maybe I will go that route and just get a color refill kit and hope it works out.

Thanks apos! HAPPY

PS Anymore inputs out there guys... especially the Lexmark X series cartridges. Those color cartridges (#26) are so small and you have to remove the top lid to fill them too.

OK, I ordered a set of remfg'd cartridges for the Lexmark. Was not too bad... only $39.00 for a #16 & #26 after S&H fees. Should have them in a few days or so.

Thanks again for the links on cheap inks!

How much would they have been if you bought them at Best Buy or some retail store like that?

swez on 06/30/2004 09:58:17
I think Retail, the new cartridges are about $68.00 + tax for the set. The best prices I have found in retail are usually at Walmart. But for this printer, add $35.00 more and get a brand new one. The Lex X1150 Prin Trio is a scaner, copier and printer. Not a bad macine for under $95.00 new.

Black (#16) is $32.00
Color (#26) is $36.00

Most larger printer makers all play the same game... practically give away the hardware and cash in on the inks.

Damn, so I guess you got the cartridges for half price?

If I ever got a printer, I'd get a duotone laserjet. Fast printing, and one cartridge. It's not like colour would help me read better.

(No, I don't have my own personal printer, but there is a functioning one in the house.)

I use a printer a lot for my business and other matters too. It's nice to map out a custom sub enclosure, print out diagrams, detailed specs and other data may need in hard copy form. Then, I just mag them to my shop fridge (cold water, pop and brewskies) and they are there when I am ready for a new project.

I have 2 computers now. One for daily work (Desktop I built) and the other is a lapper for computing on the go. Basically, a portable office is my goal. If things get a bit "nutty" at home, I can leave for a few hours (or days) and still be connected to the net etc.

My (identical twin) brother uses an HP Laser printer and yes, very fast, very expensive, but it meets his business needs well. He took my advice and got a lapper for on the go business needs and his wife tends to the book keeping side of their biz from a desk top. He's great at his business tasks, but his computer skills are way behind the curve. He often comes to me for advice on how to do this or that on a computer too. That's what brothers are for huh?

Hey thanks and yes, I did check them out too. For my specific needs on the Lex Prin Trio, www.Elotusland.com was the best deal going on refurb cartridges. The black is OEM (#16) works great for $16.75. Still have color, but will probably try a better refill kit later. The "Universal" refill kit I bought at WalMart, really messed up my original black cartridge. Now... good to go.

Myinks.com has very good prices on knock off Epson cartridges. I did try the "Universal" refill kit in the black and at first... very poor results. Added a few cc's of fingernail polish remover (acetone) and now it prints well again. I think the viscosity and solids content of "Universal" brand inks are just a bit off for some printers to handle well.

Thanks for your suggestions,
Swez
