New install question

hi.

I did a recent installation job 2) Phoenix Gold ti15d subwoofers in a R/T sealed 1.75cf box with a JBL 1200.1 mono amplifier and a Sony CDX-S2000.

The box barely fits in his volvo because some reason they made an upper lip that blocks him from bushing the subs back so they are somewhat close to the trunk. Is this going to negatively have an affect on the subwoofers? I estimate about 4 inches of room in front of the subs. I've never had to deal with this situation before.

He is planning on a new car soon, and the joke we have is that he now has to get a car so he can fit his subs. Prorities... SMILE

I doubt it would have any negative effect... it make shake the car more though... causing more things to rattle in the trunk... and passengers.

I was thinking of it being a little more sophisticated than just vibrations from being closer to the subwoofers but more so of the air movement. Being that it is so close to the back end of the trunk the air space in front of the subwoofers is a little tight especially with 1400w RMS of power. If you feel the front of you're subs you can feel the air movement is quiet large and I think there is a SQ loss.

My question was more pointed to someone who has a good understanding of how bass wave lengths work and how it may effect the sound.

Well... I have seen subwoofers that have been fully enclosed, meaning they were inside a box themselves, but one of the walls was partially plexiglass/lexan/acrylic. If there is enough room for the bass to disperse then there shouldn't be any problem.

Have you heard of putting subs isobarically... it may require less space in that trunk... they also have a small amount of space in the enclosure, but SQ isn't lost.

think of it this way munchies home audio sub alot of times point at the floor which is 2-4 inches from the speaker.... the more air space in front of the sub the more SPL as far as SQ loss i think that would be minimal...

btw aposynthesi the box you refer to where the front of the sub and rear is both enclosed thats a bandpass box and you actualy in general lose alot of Sound Quality(SQ) in this type of set up these are built for SPL and huge bass engine type set ups. great if you want SPL not so great if you like tight crisp bass.

I didn't know the isobaric was a bandbass... I was talking about the ones where the subs face each other.

it may or may not make a difference. Each car will have different acustics and that will make a difference when placing the subs. I would say from my experience they generally sound better closer to the rear of the vehicle, but that is just my .02...........
