nobodys ever heard of um?

Munchiesyumm on 06/26/2004 14:04:34
I don't suggest anything that brand. They are cheapies comparable to Lanzer/legancy/pyle

The brand name is Precision Audio.. no good.. sorry.

Tell us what type of system you want to design and a price range and we can help you get what you really want!

best reguards/!

precision power, I heard good things about them, I got a regular cab truck and right now i got 2 kicker comps c12 in these box that are too big for behind the seat setting on the seat, and 400 rms total 2 channel pioneer amp, I want a low end competition system that i can fit behind the seat

Munchiesyumm on 06/26/2004 19:10:39
A low end competition?

We can always design a system for you with as little cost as possible but I can tell you from exsperience if you give it the extra time to save up you will have a system that you're not going to want to replace. It is defiantly a worth while investment to get what you really want.

Kicker Comps - are so so SPL subs.
Precision Power subs would not be much of a upgrade if any at all.

What is you're price range. I am certain I can help you design a system at a budgeted cost.

the ppi piston subs where in alma gates first record setting bronco. While they are older, I would not call them low end or compare them to pyle and the likes.

swez on 06/27/2004 11:29:25
As ttocs said, these are the older version of PPI's new DCX series. High SPL design, fair SQ and medium efficiency ratings too.

Reportedly, the flat piston design allows for more cone area and better linear response at higher SPL levels. I would not classify them as the best SPL sub out there... but much better than average brands in performance... but often a bit pricey too.

thank you thats what i though, this sub is coming tuesday, I'll tell you how it works

racerbizoehm on 06/27/2004 16:51:58
do u guys got any specs on the 12 inch pro series flat?

swez on 06/27/2004 18:33:19
You may have to contact PPI and ask them the details for that series. It was not listed on the PPI website. I did get a little on them here:

http://www.sv-art.ru/eng/brands/precision.shtml

Definately an SPL sub here. High Fs of 42 Hz and smaller Vas of 1.552 cf, 300 watts each. With luck, the ones you have coming are the 8 ohm version sub. If they are, can wire them in parallel (//) and get 4 ohms so you can bridge your amp. These take 300 watts each.

im only geting one sub though

swez on 06/28/2004 12:26:37
In that case, hope it's a 4 ohm unit.

racerbizoehm on 06/28/2004 15:43:24
what would that make the ohms if my amp is 200 rms x 2 4 ohm i think and i bridged it

swez on 06/28/2004 19:29:11
If your amp is 200 RMS x 2 @ 4 ohms in 2 channel mode, then your new 4 ohm sub will get a bit over 400 RMS when bridged to MONO.

Even if the sub is rated for 300 RMS, a larger amp will be fine if you don't get carried away with the bass boost or over EQ bass control on your HU.

Which Pioneer amp do you have there Racer?

Swez

racerbizoehm on 06/29/2004 12:46:51
sweeeet just got it its 4 ohm and my amp says 760 max on it but i checked around and should be 400 bridged

racerbizoehm on 06/30/2004 17:33:49
hmm my kickers smoke this thing whats the deal with it ?

swez on 07/1/2004 08:44:25
Did you bridge the amp properly, set the LPF to about 40 Hz?

Also, what type enclosure did you install this sub in? (sealed, ported or BP?)

What is the amp model number you have there again?

Swez

racerbizoehm on 07/1/2004 10:21:17
it seems like its not as loud as kickers but it does the job and it also seems it puts out more pressure but doesnt seem louder, is that possible? the LPF on it can't be adjusted its just a switch on the amp that goes to low pass, I dont know what the Hz is its a a sealed box that fits nicely behind the seat, The Pioneer amp model is GM-X862 and yes I'm prety sure its bridged right even with it hooked up to one channel it doesnt sound as good

swez on 07/1/2004 18:31:30
Yes, this amp is rated at 190 x 2 RMS @ 2 ohms. When bridged, it should do close to 400 watts RMS.

What size enclosure (cf?) is this sub in now? If you are much below 0.88 cf sealed, it will sound whimpy on the low end bass. Am not sure what the recommended enclosure specs are for this sub, but it was designed for high SPL, but not a lot of low end bass response.

A quick e-mail or phone call to PPI Tech Service should give you all the details on the sub and enclosure recommendations.

it is a prety wide box but just deep enough to fit behind seat

swez on 07/2/2004 00:12:35
Sorry, that response tells me nothing we can work with... cannot figure out what you have without dimensions.

Internal/external Cubic foot of the box please...

Height
Width
Depth (top & bottom) if a wedge box D1 & D2

What thickness is the wood used?

racerbizoehm on 07/2/2004 10:17:08
ok, I got the specs from ebay yet 14 inch high 24 inch wide 5 1/2 at the top and 8 on bottom and is 3/4 inch MDF

swez on 07/2/2004 22:34:37
That gives you about 0.90 - 1.0 cf for the sub. If you don't have polyfill in the box now, I suggest you fill it with ~1 lb of pollyfill (Dacron/Polyester).

This might help get better lows from that box.

Did you contact PPI on the enclosure specs for this sub yet? I am very curious what they recommend for this older sub. This box may be a tad small for that driver.

It may be a slow answer as this is a holiday weekend!

Swez

racerbizoehm on 07/3/2004 17:19:54
already have polyfill in it lol, It might just be the subs though but i don't know, doesnt matter too much

swez on 07/3/2004 18:45:39
OK, guess we just have to chalk this one up to experience and that older sub technologies are not always up to par with some of the newer products available.

If you had a 2nd enclosure handy, say 1.25 cf or so internal, wonder how that sub would work in that kind of enclosure?

Swez

racerbizoehm on 07/5/2004 18:13:00
ok i could try that sometime
