First off, let me say that I am a complete "Newb" when it comes to Car Stereo's and Equipment.

I just have 1 question for now. Which is better, An Amp with more power than your subs, or subs with more power than your amp?

you want your sub rating to be higher then the amp rating to allow some room for peaks in the music.

Hummm, hate to dissagree with a fellow Gold here, but actually is very good to buy an amp with a bit more power (~20-30%) than the subs are rated for. (maybe it was just an oversight) There is a "ring of truth" to this if your subs are very high power subs (1000 RMS each) and the amp is modest at say 300 RMS total. But there's more to the story... better to have a larger sub amp output VS speaker/sub ratings...

Why, this will allow a clean (non-clipped) signal to your subs which in turn, lets your subs have all the clean rated power they can handle and also handles the typical transient bass spikes. ( short duration peaks in bass music)

If you get a smaller amp than subs are rated for and really crank on the Bass Engine hard, the amp will send "dirty signals" (high clipping, sqarish waveform distortion) which are very hard on the amp and subs.

QUOTES:

"If your speakers are capable of handling significantly more than your amplifier can produce, driving them with a clipped signal will not likely hurt them."

"If your speakers are rated for the same power handling as your amplifier is capable of producing cleanly, driving them with a clipped signal for extended periods of time may cause speaker damage and/or premature failure."

"If your speakers are rated for the same power handling as your amplifier is capable of producing cleanly, driving them with a square wave signal for extended periods of time will likely cause speaker damage."
