I just bought 2 10' alpine subs, and i was wondering if 12' would make that much of a difference, and if it would be worth the money or not. Replies (7) uochronos on 06/22/2004 01:59:48 12" well get a little lower then the 10's but wont be much louder. honestly i had 2 10" alpine type r's and everyone thought they where 12's till i showed them. swez on 06/22/2004 08:40:25 A pair of 10's can do a very nice job at bass in the proper enclosure. It really depends on the enclosure siz and type of enclosure used. Say more on which Alpine subs you have now and what amp you have (or would like to use) in this install and we'll try to give you some ideas. What type of music do you like best? Swez Jas152001 on 06/22/2004 18:20:10 They are alpine type E's, basically i like most sorts, rap kinda, rock, some country, wide range. the 10's that i have are 600 watt. peak power. Jas152001 on 06/22/2004 18:20:23 and i don't have the amp yet swez on 06/22/2004 19:38:16 Are these the subs you just bought? Looks like Alpine has heard of Old Swez. They practically named a sub after the old guy... Do you have a budget number limit in mind? Swez Jas152001 on 06/23/2004 15:02:58 there swe1041 well i was thinking 3 or 4 hundered but its prolly gunna be alot more then that, what kind of watt amp. would i need? swez on 06/23/2004 21:53:49 I suggest a Class D MONO sub amp with 300-500 watts RMS @ 2 ohms will do the job. Here are a few suggestions you can search via Google or E-bay. 1. JBL PowerValve BP-300.1 Subwoofer Mono Amp Subwoofer Mono Amp Specifications: Amplifier Type: Mono RMS Power: 150W x 1 @ 4 ohms THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: 0.1% RMS Power: 300W x 1 @ 2 ohms *** Speaker Level Inputs: Yes Preamp Outputs: No Built-In Crossovers: LP Bass Boost: 0-6 dB Frequency Response: 10-320 Hz Signal to Noise Ratio: >100 dB Fuse Rating: 1 x 30 amps This amp has good power ratings, but a bit under what your subs can safely handle. Have to do some digging on this one. Figure ~ $140.00 (USD) as a good market price for new. A Factory Refurbished version will do fine if you can get one with full warrantee and under $110.00 (USD) 2. JBL PowerValve BP-600.1 Subwoofer Mono Amp Subwoofer Mono Amp Specifications Amplifier Type: Mono RMS Power: 300W x 1 @ 4 ohms THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: 0.1% RMS Power: 600W x 1 @ 2 ohms **** Speaker Level Inputs: Yes Preamp Outputs: No Built-In Crossovers: LP Bass Boost: 0-6 dB Frequency Response: 10-320 Hz Signal to Noise Ratio: >100 dB Fuse Rating: 2 x 30 amps This is the 300.1's bigger brother. It delivers twice the power and has same features as the 300.1. You can use this one, but be careful with your gain settings as this amp has enough power (+600 RMS @ 2 ohms) which is more that your subs can take if you crank the system all the time. http://www.cardomain.com/item/JBLBP6001 $220.00 (USD) 3. US Acoustics USB600D Subwoofer Mono Amp Subwoofer Mono Amp Specifications: Amplifier Type: Mono RMS Power: 250W x 1 @ 4 Ohms THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: <0.3% RMS Power: 375W x 1 @ 2 Ohms *** Speaker Level Inputs: No Preamp Outputs: Yes Built-In Crossovers: LP Bass Boost: 0 or 10 dB Frequency Response: n/a Signal to Noise Ratio: >80 dB Fuse Rating: 20 amps http://www.cardomain.com/item/USAUSB600D $190.00 (USD) 4.Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.0:1 Subwoofer Mono Amp Subwoofer Mono Amp Specifications Amplifier Type: Mono RMS Power: 200W x 1 @ 4 ohms THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: n/a RMS Power: 400W x 1 @ 2 ohms **** Speaker Level Inputs: No Preamp Outputs: Yes Built-In Crossovers: LP Subsonic Filter, variable Q, 18dB/octave slope Bass Boost: 0 - 15 dB Frequency Response: 20-350 Hz Signal to Noise Ratio: >90 dB Fuse Rating: n/a http://www.cardomain.com/item/PHOR501 $320.00 (USD) A very good match for your subs... just a bit more money and some nice features too. This Subsonic filter is a must in ported box designs. 5. Kicker KX400.1 Subwoofer Mono Amp Subwoofer Mono Amp Specifications: Amplifier Type: Mono RMS Power: 200W x 1 @ 4 ohms THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: n/a RMS Power: 400W x 1 @ 2 ohms **** Speaker Level Inputs: No Preamp Outputs: Yes Built-In Crossovers: LP Bass Boost: 0 - 18 dB Frequency Response: 20-200 Hz Signal to Noise Ratio: >95 dB Fuse Rating: n/a http://www.cardomain.com/item/KIC04KX4001 $350.00 (USD) 6. Alpine MRP-M350 200W x 1 Mono Subwoofer Amp 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms 350 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms *** Requires 8-gauge power and ground leads MOSFET power supply low-pass crossover, 50-200 Hz, 24 dB/octave 15 Hz subsonic filter variable Bass EQ bass boost (0-12 dB at 50 Hz) preamp- and speaker-level inputs blue power LED extra-large gold-plated terminals 9-3/16"W x 2-7/16"H x 9-9/16"D 1-year warranty http://www.crutchfield.com/S-GHnZlOUYjNC/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=130&I=500MRPM350&o=p&a=0&cc=01&avf=N&search=Alpine+subwoofer+amps $200.00 (USD) =================================================== OK, that should give you a good crossection of quality amps for these subs. If you have any questions about other amps you'd like to use... just give the make, model # and a web site addy. Will look it over for you. The main thing here... make sure the amp you choose is 2 ohm stable and has adequate RMS power to run your subs. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
