sounds like you have a solid system going, the only thing i would do is get rid of the sony amps and the caps as well. it pretty much is useless. i would upgrade the wiring from your batt to your vehicle chasis. the wire from your batt to your alternator. use 4guage wiring here, will allow all the necessary power to travel through your electrical system, also use 4 gauge or larger to your amps( in wiring the smaller the number the larger the wire) your probably already knew that but some people may not. are you runnin component speakers in the jeep or what. i think them doors handle 5x7s but im not sure. if not using components would recommend gettin a set. will notice a big diffrence especially if you have adiquate amping to them. good luck, can always get new tires too whichever you desire more.

Infinity speakers come stock with some Jeep Cherokee models. Many are already amped from the stock factory install. I think these are called the Infinity Gold system and usually, that name is on the speaker cover plates. They are OK... but aftermarket speakers are usually much better sounding.

The 2 Sony amps are really the weak part of the link here. Try upgrading to a better brand as you are able. One amp at a time is a good way to keep within the budget. You can always sell the Sony amps to a friend that is just getting into car audio. They are better than no amps at all,

Finally, the wiring upgrades mentioned by CompVR, are a good idea if you shoot for a high output system. The Cap will make a fine paper weight, but not really needed if your electricals are up to par. Caps are not a good solution to long term power shortages.

Thanks for the info. No i dont have component speakers in the front but i have gotten ridden of the factory infinity speakers cause they were pretty blown. Right now i have 4 gauge wire running from my battery to my cap then 4 gauge to a spliiter (fused) into two 8's to my amps.........

What amp should i replace first? and what would be the best amp to replace it with around the $300 range? My 4 channel is running infinity's rms 60 peaking at 170 i think....(not the factory speakers)

Is this what you have now?

Sony Xplod XM-475GSX Multi Channel Amplifier (4 channel amp)
800 WATTS PEAK

* 75 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms
* 100 watts x 4 at 2 ohms
* 200 watts x 2 in bridged mode
* 2-, 3-, 4-channel or Tri-Way output
* MOSFET power supply and output stages
The pulse power supply regulates fluctuating voltage from the car's battery to keep the output power of the amplifier from fluctuating with the input voltage; this results in consistent power delivery despite input voltage fluctuations.
* Crossovers
There are separate crossovers for the front and rear channels. Each crossover is variable from 50-300Hz, and can be set for high-pass or low-pass operation. If you need full range output, the crossover(s) may be turned off. The crossovers have a slope of 12dB/octave.
* Preamp- and speaker-level inputs -- allow easy hookup to any system.
* Gold-plated connectors
* Bass Boost: Bass response may be boosted from 0 to +10dB for frequencies around 40Hz; there are separate low boost level controls for the front and rear channels.
* Requires 8-gauge power and ground leads wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
* Test Tone: The amplifier includes a built-in oscillator that can be activated to check system performance

This amp has adequate power, usable crossovers and a few good basic features. IMHO, this amp should do a decent job powering your interior speakers for now... if you have the HU and amp settings matched up well.

What is your biggest concern, complaint or issue with this amp? Are you not getting clean, well powered Mids/highs from this amp now? Say more please.... it may just be a matter of tuning up your new HU and amp adjustments to make this part of your system sound better.

That sub amp... not sure what you have here as the model number is incomplete. Do you know the specs or have a web link to same? I don't have time to waste...look up incomplete model numbers. That information, I expect you to provide and then we can make some well targeted suggestions. Care to go back and look for the full model number?

Quote: "One is a 1200 watt mono amp. #475GSX, and the other a 800 watt 4 channel amp #1600GSD." These models are not only incomplete... they are bass-ackwards too. FROWN It only took me 20 minutes to find this amp and specs for you.

The "475GSX" is the 4 channel amp, the other mentioned, I assume??? is the Mono amp for your subs? Seems so... but come back with the full model number and a web link with specifications. With these tools... we can do you some good.

The JL sub information listed in your post said JL W3. According to the JL web site, this is either an 18" sub or the entire model number is missing some details.

Is this what you have now? If you have something other than the 18" W3's, what would the complete model number be? THINK

PS If I seem a bit harsh on you today, well... forgive my sense of frustration. This is a busy board and many are on it several hours a day in our spare time. But chasing down incomplete details or just plain wrong information is "VERY FRUSTRATING". If you were in our seats, trying to lead people through a complex maze of choices, troubleshooting, problem solving and offering useful solutions... you'd soon understand the nature of this frustration too. Thanks for your future cooperation. No More COFFEE for me today... hehe

Sorry for all the confusion..i am pretty new at this..i just got the model numbers off of the amps...and am not sure of the model numbers for the subs cause i bought them from a budy a few years ago.and they are 12's....That 800 watt amp does seam like the right one....I think i might have the HU and other adjustments all messed up(speakers getting to much bass). If u could let me know where the settings should be or even just what the settings mean that owuld be great. And if i am missing info or this is just to much of a pain in the neck then sorry.....thanx for all the help though

Chris,

I know you are new... along with maybe 6-10 other new folks who pop in each week. Being new, we expect that newbies will have a steep learning curve for moderate to complex installs. That HU alone, is one of the most complex and versitile products on the market today. But reading the install manual a few times will help a lot. Yes, it will confuse at times as you are not familar with the terms and features. We can help you with these.

But we need to be on the same page as to getting accurate and adequate detail on the products you have or wish to buy. Yes... it takes time and after 4 years of this board work, I've seen a lot and learned a lot. If you hang out a while, invest some time in reading others posts and answers... will pick up a lot too. We will both just learn to be a bit more patient OK?

The JL subs mentioned... these are probably older subs and JL does have a decent archives in their site on older products. I think it's in the "discontinued" part of the page.

http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/discontinued.html

My guess is... you may have either Dual Voice Coil model:

1. 12W3-D4 (4+4 DVC)
2. 12W3-D6 (6+6 DVC)

Check this out by pulling 1 sub from enclosure or ask your buddy which JL's he sold you. If he has the product manuals... all the better. If not, you can DL them from the JL site for your own references and print out a copy. Do the same with your amps if you don't have adequate details on them.

FYI: Sony does make a decent product, but their web support is a real nightmare. One of the worst at giving usable, reliable manuals and spec sheets on older products. More hype than help. But go to the Sony website and ask Tech Service to forward you copies of specs and such on your amps.

Sony Contact:

Once we know what products you have and the feature on them, then we can move forward with tuning things up to make them sound as good as it gets OK?
