Head Units

After Swes' reply to my earier post about how my HU is the weaker link in my set up, I'm thinking about upgrading to a better one.

Some of the features that I am looking for include:

HP/LP Filters
Sub Controls
Higher volt preouts
- Sub preouts
Detachable faceplate
Wireless Remote
Rotary Volume Control
This may sound weird but I would like blue and white face lighting scheme if possible. Not a neccecity but something I would like.

My price max is about $400-450 (CND). But I would like to hear all options as I may be able to find it cheaper on Ebay.ca or somthing. Also I don't have a brand preferance, as long as its a good product.

I was looking at the Alpine CDA-9827 for $270 (CND) off ebay.ca

Thanks,
JRM

The 9827 is a good price/performance head unit, that one of the options for my first head unit, so was Sony's F7700 / 7705X... the only difference between the 7700 and 7705X is that the 7705X has blue lettering on the buttons instead of red, and it's MSRP is $10 more.

The 7705X is perhaps better overall - most of the same features, minmal changes, although I don't know if it has sub controls.

Most high end HU's have remotes so you need not worry about that.

I suggest you take a look on www.ikesound.com and check out the Clarion, Panasonic, and Pioneer Primer, and Alpine decks. You can't go wrong with any of these brands.

The panasonics are famous for having a gillion high voltage preouts with tons of fancy filters and subwoofer controls for a lot less under you're price range.

good luck!

Also look at the Eclipse models (CD5444, and CD8454)
The CD5444 has 5v preouts, and the 8454 has 8v unbalanced, 16v balanced preouts. Eclipse units are 6x less likely to be stolen due to their advanced security features.
I have the top of the line alpine (cda 9835) single din HU, and it only has 4v preouts. sony and pioneer premier have 2.2 and 3.5v preouts.
You can also look into inline RCA crossovers (preamp) that boost RCA output voltage. Personally 4v is clean enough for me. On the soundboard we have at the shop, I can't tell a difference in sound quality from the alpine's 4v to the eclipse 8v. If you are looking for cleaner sound, also look into cleaner amplifiers.
